NOTIFICATION

New Delhi, the 3rd February, 2010

No. RS 7/5/2009-L.--The following amendments

to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the

Council of States (Rajya Sabha) as adopted by the Rajya

Sabha at its sitting held on the 15th December, 2009 are

hereby published for general information :-

Chapter VII

(I) The existing rule 43 be substituted with the

following :- -

43. Limit of number of starred questions

(1) Not more than one question distinguished by

an asterisk by the same Member shall be placed

on the list of questions for oral answer on any-

one day. Questions in excess of one shall be placed

on the list of questions for written answers.

Each question included in the List of Questions

for oral answer will be in the name of one mem-

ber only by virtue of his position in the ballot.

Unless the Chairman otherwise directs, where a

Member has given more than one notice of

questions distinguished by an asterisk for same

day, his question for the list of questions for

oral answer shall 6e selected in the order indi-

cated by the member and if no such order is

indicated, any of these questions shall be placed

on the list of questions for oral answer

in the order in which notices are received in

point of time.

The existing sub-rule (3) of the rule 54 be

substituted with the following-

54. Mode of asking questions-

(3) If on a question being called it is not put or the

Member in whose name it stands is absent, the

Chairman shall direct that the answer to it be given.

Rule 55 be deleted.
