IG/ACD/Statute 17(9)/17/105.—Consequent upon the decision of the Govt. of India conveyed vide Ministry of

HRD letter No.1-19/2006-U.II dt.23.3.2007 relating to enhancement in the age of superannuation for teaching positions in

centrally funded institutions for higher and technical education from 62 years to 65 years and further approval of the Board of

Management through circulation, the University made the following amendments to Statute 17(9) concerning the age of

retirement of teachers of the University. This has the approval of the President of India in his capacity as Visitor, as conveyed

under the MHRD letter No.F.5-11/2017-DL dated 15.12.2017.

Clause (9) of Statute 17 of the IGNOU Act:

After amendment, the amended Clause (9) under Statute 17 shall be read as under:

Age of retirement – (a) Save as otherwise provided in the Act, Statutes and Ordinances all teachers of the University shall

retire from service on the afternoon of the last date of the month in which he/she attains the age of 65 years.

(b)

The Board of Management, if it is satisfied, on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor, may, in the interest of

the University, re-employ a teacher who has retired after the expiry of his contract:

Provided that all persons holding teaching positions against sanctioned posts may also be considered for re-

employment beyond 65 years and up to the age of 70 years, against sanctioned vacant posts, if such posts are not

filled up by regular candidates upon the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor and with the due approval of the

Board of Management of the University. However, such re-employments beyond the age of 65 years shall be done

as per the extant guidelines of the University Grants Commission.

Provided, further that a teacher so re-employed shall not be eligible to hold an office which involves administrative

work; provided also that the salary of such teachers shall be fixed after taking into consideration the pension or other

retirement benefits drawn or to be drawn by him in accordance with the rules prescribed by the Central Government.
