NOTIFICATION
No. F l-21012019/18.- In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 433 read with sub-section (l)
of Section l8 of the Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation Act, 1956 (No.23 of 1956), the State Government,
hereby, makes the following amendment in the Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation (Election of Speaker)
Rules, 1998, namely:-
AMENDMENT
In the said rules, -
1. In rule l, in sub-rule (l), before the word, "Speakef', the words "Mayor and" shall be inserted.

2. In rule 2,
(i) in clause (b), the words "the Mayor and" shall be omitted; and
(ii) for clause (e), the following shall be substituted, namely:-
"(e) "Presiding Authority" means an officer authorized by the State Election Commission under sub-
section (3) of Section l8 of the Act;"
3. In rule 3, in sub-rule (l), before the word "Speaker", the words "Mayor and" shall be inserted.
4. In rule 4, -
(i) in sub-rule (l), before the word "Speaker", the words "Mayor and" shall be inserted; and
(ii) after sub-rule (2), the following shall be added, namely:-
"(3) Separate nomination papers will have to be submitted for the posts of Mayor and/or the Speaker."
5. In rule 6,-
]
(i) in sub-rule (2), in clause (b), for the word. "Speaker", the words and symbol "Mayor or Speaker, as the
case may be," shall be substituted; and
(ii) after sub-rule (4), the following shall be added, namely:-
"(5) The procedure mentioned in sub-rule (l) to ( ) shall be followed separately for the posts of the
Mayor and Speaker."

In rule 9,-
(i) in sub-rule (l), before the word "speaker", the words "Mayor and" shall be inserted; and
(ii) after sub-rule (2), the following shall be added, namely:-
"(3) The process mentioned in sub-rule (l) and (2) shall be followed separately for the posts of the
Mayor and the Speaker."

In rule 10,-
(D in sub-rule (l), after the words and symbol "box being unlocked." the words and symbol "Separate
ballot-boxes shall be used for the election of the Mayor and the Speaker, and, as the case may be, the
word 'Mayor' or'Speaker' shall be prominently marked on the ballot-box." shall be added; and
(ii) after sub-rule (4), the following shall be added, namely:-
"(5) The voting shall be conducted sequentially first for the Mayor and thereafter for the Speaker."
8. In rule ll, after the words "The presiding authority shall", the words and symbol "sequentially, first in
respect of the Mayor and thereafter in respect of the Speaker," shall be inserted.
9.
In rule 13, after the words and symbol "has been completed,", the words and symbol "sequentially, for the
posts of Mayor and the Speaker," shall be inserted.
10. In rule 16, before the word "Speaker", the words "Mayor or" shall be inserted.
I l. In Form-A, for the word "Speaker" wherever they occur, the words and symbol "Mayor/Speaker" shall be
substituted.
12. In Form-B, for the word "Speaker", the words and symbol "Mayor/Speaker" shall be substituted.
13. In Form-C, in the title, for the word "Speaker", the words and symbol "Mayor/Speaker" shall be
substituted.
