No. 25015/1/81-T.—The Government of India are deeply

concerned about the fluctuating prices and the need for the

long-term arrangements to protect the interests of both pro-

ducers and consumers in the case of perishable agricultural

commodities like onion, potato, vegetables, etc. While it is

not possible for any Government agency to operate a price

support mechanism for perishable commodities as in the case

of foodgrains, an effective and appropriate method is the pro-

motion of farmers own organisation for the purchase and

murkcting of such commodities.

f ⁱ^To^{examine this matter}^{in all its}^aspects,^{it has}^been

ided to constitute a small Group comprising the follow-

ing :—

(1) Dr. M. S. Swaminathan, Member (Agri.) Planning

Commission.—Chairman

(2) Shri S. S. Puri, Secretary, Dentt. of Agri.

and

Cooperation.—Member

(3) Dr. V. Kurien, Chairman, National Dairy Develop-

ment Board.—Member

(4) Shri lagdeesh Kodesia, Member Standing Committee,

Bharat Krishak Samaj.—Member

(5) Shri S, B. Pandya, Honorary Secretary, Rashtriya

Kisan Sanglhan.—Member

16) Shri A. J, S. Sodhi, Joint Secretary, ("in-Charge Trade

Division) Department of Agriculture and Coopera-

tion—Member-Secretary.

3. The non-official Members of the Group would be en-

lit'ed to TA/DA as eligible to Group-A Officers of the

Government of India for

attending the

meetings of the

Group.

4. The Group will submit its report to Government by

the 28th February, 1981.

ORDER

Ordered that a copy of the Resolution be communicated

to all Ministries /Departments of the Government of India,

all State Governments and Union Territory Administrations

and nil concerned.

Ordered also that the Resolution be published in the Gazette

of India for general information.
