S.O. 84(E):—The following proposals rrrade by tht. Ccntuil

Government in exercise of the powers conferred by Cliu<-e (a)

of sub-°cction(l)of section 3, road with Clause (in) of sub-

section (1) of section 4 of the Minimum Wages Act, I94N

(11 of 1948) for fixing the minimum rates of wages ESS specified

in Column 2 of the Schedule annexed hereto, payable to the

categories of the employees employed in employment in Wolfi i pi

Mines as specified, in the corresponding entries in Column I cf

the said Schedule, arc herd by published as required h> Cltuse

(b) of sub-section (1) of section 5 of the said Act for inforirnlion

of all persons likely to be affected thereby and notice is hereby

given that the said proposals will be taken inlo consideration

after the expiry of 2 months from the date of publication of the

notification in the Official Gazette.

Explanation :—For the purpose of this notification—

(1) the minimum rates of wages are all inclusive rates and

include also the wage payable for the weekly day of rest;

(2) the minimum rates of wages are applicable to employees

employed by contractors also;

(3) the minimum rates of wages payable to young poisons

below 18 yeais of age and for disabled persons shall be H0%

and 70°;; lespectively of the lates fixed by this notification for

adult workers of the appropriate category ;

(4) (a) "Unskilled work" means work which involes simple

operations requiring little or no skill or experience of the job;

(b) "Semi-skilled work" means work which involves some

decree of skill or competence acquired through experience of the

job and which is capable of being performed under the super-

vision or guidance of a skilled employee and includes un-

supervisory work;

(raining ns an apprentice or in a technical or vocational institute

and the performance of which calls foi initiative and judge-

ment;

(J) Where in any area, the minimum ia(es of wages fixed

by this notification are lower than

the prevailing laks of

wages of any employee, the higher wages shall be treated as

the minimum rates of wages applicable for the purpose of this

notification to such employee.
