NOTIFICATION

New Delhi, the 30th November, 1981

GJ9.R. 624(E).—AVherieas the Central Government had in exercise of the

powers conferred by subi-clause (ii) of clause (e) of section 3 of the Insecticides

Act, 1968 (46 of 1968) has included Ediphenphos (O-ethyl-s, s-diphenyl-dithio-

phosphate) (hereinafter referred to as the said insecticide) In the Schedule to

the said Act ;

And whereas It was brought to the notice of the Ceatrtl Government that

a very large number of persons had developed symptoms of poisoning by the

use of the said insecticides in hte district of Nlzambad in the Andhra Pradesh;

And whereas the Central Government la of the opinion that the use of

the said insecticides is likely to involve risk to human beings ;

And whereon the Central Government considers it necessary to carry out

investigations in the matter and to have the sample of the said insecticide

analysed for pioduct specifications, associated chemicals and impurities ;

Now, therefore, hi exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (1)

of section 27 of the Insecticides Act, 1968, tho Central Government hereby

prohibits the sale, distribution or

use of Ediphenphos (o-ethyl-s, s-diphenyl-

dithlophosphate) (sold under the brtmd namo of Hlnosan and H. Phos, or

under any other brand name) throughout the territory of India, for a period

of sixty da\s.
