New Delhi, the 1st December, 1982

NO. 286|82—CENTRAL EXCISES

G.S.R. 731(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-

rule (1) of rule 8 of the Central Excise Rules, 1944, the Central

Government hereby exempts sugar, falling under sub-item (1) of

Item No. 1 of the First Schedule to the Central Excises and Salt

Act, 1944 (1 of 1944), from so much of the duty oi excise levi-

able thereon under the said Act at the rate specified in the said

First Schedule, as is in excess of the amount calculated at the rate

of eight per cent ad valorem :

Provided that nothing contained in this notification shall apply

to sugar required by the Central Government to be sold under

clause (f) of sub-section (2) of section 3 of the Essential Com-

modities Act, 1955 (10 of 1955).
