NOTIFICATION

Notification for Census Functionaries in Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and

Daman & Diu

In exercise of the power conferred by sub-section (2) of the section 4 of the Census Act, 1948

(XXXVII of 1948) and in suppression of all previous notifications issued in this behalf, the Union

Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu hereby appoints the persons specified in column

3 of the schedule here to annexed as Census Officers with such designation as mentioned in column 4

and at such level as shown in column 2, to take or aid in or supervise the taking of census within the

areas respectively specified against each of them in column 5 of the said schedule, as follows, namely:

In exercise of the power conferred by sub-section (4) of the section 4 of the said Act,

the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu hereby delegates the powers to the

officers specified in column 3 of the above table for appointing Census Officers within their respective

jurisdictions. The Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu also authorized the

officers specified in column 3 to sign declaration under provision of Sub-Section (3) of Section 4 of

Census Act, 1948.

In exercise of the power conferred by sub-section (1) of the section 6 of the said Act,

the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu hereby appoints the officers specified

in column 3 of the above table who may by written orders direct the persons mentioned in clauses (a) to

(f) to perform such duties of the Census officers.

As per the provisions of Section 11 of the Census Act, 1948, any Census Officer or any

person lawfully required to give assistance towards the taking of Census and who refuses to perform any

duty allotted to him/her under this Act or any rule made there under, or any person who hinders or

obstructs another person in performing any such duty, shall be punishable with fine up to one thousand

rupees or in case of a conviction shall also be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three

years.

This is issued with the Approval of the Hon’ble Administrator, U. T. of Dadra and Nagar Haveli

and Daman and Diu vide dairy No. 1495718 dated 09/02/2026.
