Review of the Annual Administrative Report of the Art & Culture Affairs Department, Haryana

for the Year 2016-2017

The 23rd October, 2018

No. CAO-2018/1770.— The Department of Art & Cultural Affairs, Haryana has been established for the

furtherance of classical, folk performing, visual and plastic arts of the State. Haryana has a rich heritage of folk music,

songs, vigorous dances and characteristic instruments like been, duph, sarangi, nagara, tasha etc. The department

promotes the artists of the State and provides financial assistance to various cultural organizations engaged in the

promotion of Art and Culture. Scholarship is awarded to students for training in various institutions of art and culture.

Through sponsorship, research and dissemination it seek enhanced public appreciation of music, dance and drama

together with the quickened exchange of ideas and techniques for the common gain of the Indian performing arts. The

department in collaboration with North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Allahabad

& Indian Council for Cultural Relations arranges inter State Cultural/Foreign troupes programmes.

During the year under review, the Department organized various National/International Cultural programmes

of different art forms. In order to revive the visual and plastic art forms, Contemporary Sculpture Camp was

organized at Multi Art Cultural Complex, Kurukshetra. Similarly Mask Making & Painting Workshops were

organized at Jaat Bhawan, Chandigarh & Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector-16, Chandigarh. These camps/workshops were

organized on the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebrations.

Similarly in order to revive performing Arts forms, financial assistance and scholarship were given and the

following important Cultural events were also organized:-

Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated on 02.10.2016 at Haryana Raj Bhawan which encourages National integration

and communal harmony.

Haryana Govt. declared the Celebration of International Gita Jayanti Mahotsav in all districts of Haryana. This

Department organized various traditional Folk Art performances like: - Deru, Joggi, Jangam, Been and

Bagpiper etc. during the festival, across the State.

On the occasion of 300th Martyred Day of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, light & sound programmes were

presented from 15.5.2016 to 25.5.2016 in various Districts of Haryana State.

Cultural programme was organized in India International Trade Fare at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on

21.11.2016, on the occasion of Haryana State Day Celebration.

Grant-in-Aid of Rs. 22.40 Crore was provided to various organizations engaged in the promotion of Art &

Culture of the State/Language Academies, Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board and All district

Information Public Relations Officers (Organization of Geeta Mahotsava). Apart from this, Scholarships were

given to three students of Haryana domicile getting training at Theatre Arts in the Department of Indian

Theatre Punjab University, Chandigarh & Indian Film & Television Institute, Pune.

Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, IAS (01.04.2016 to 04.07.2016) & Sh. Sameer Pal Srow, IAS from (05.07.2016 to

18.01.2017) performed as Director General Art & Cultural Affair, Haryana during the year under review 2016-17.
