Review of the Annual Administrative Report of the Fisheries Department, Haryana

for the Year 2016-2017

FISHERIES MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION.

Conserviation and management of fish stock in natural Notified Waters (Rivers, Canals and Drains) were

regulated by Fisheries Department under Punjab Fisheries Act, 1914 and Haryana Fisheries Rules, 1996 framed

thereunder, Auction of fishing rights in notified water was conducted publically and the department received Revenue

of Rs. 195.07 Lakh. Department compounded 15 cases of illegal fishing under this Act during the year 2016-17.

FISH SEED PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION.

In order to produce fish seed through induced breeding 758 pairs of Indian Major Carp fish and 2753 of

Common Carp fish were bred at Government Fish Seed Farms during the year 2016-17 Quality fish seed of Indian

Major Carp (IMC) and Common Carp (CC) to the tunne of 841.61 Lakh and 357.83 Lakh respectively i.e. total of

1199.44 Lakh was produced at various fish seed farms of the State. In addition to this, 5333.00 Lakh was produced by

the fish farmers. The fish seed so produced was supplied to the fish farmers and stocked in their ponds in the State.

FISHERIES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME IN PONDS.

Department brought 18975 hectare water area under fish farming by stocking 7665.65 Lakh quality fish seed

and 144210 MT of fish was produced from private/leased ponds.

FISHERIES DEVELOPMENT IN LAKES AND RESERVOIRS.

Fisheries activities in lakes and reservoirs situated at different Tourist Complexes remained with the Tourism

Department to the tune of 67.70 Lakh fish seed was stocked in 152.90 Hectare Lake/reservoir water area and

81.00 MT fish was produced during the year 2016-17.

DISTRIBUTION OF SUBSIDY BY FISHERIES DEPARTMENT.

During the year 2016-17 the department under various schemes provided Rs. 764.26 Lakh and Rs. 166.52 Lakh as

subsidy to the Scheduled Caste Families for the construction of now ponds, installation of tubewell and on inputs like

fish seed, feed and fertilizedrs etc. to the fish farmers.

TRAINING AND EXTENSION.

During the year 2016-17, under the extension programme, the department 94323 booklets, arranged

69 Exhibitions, delivered 779 Lactures and trained 1279 persons.

FISH PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION.

During the year 2016-17, 144210 MT of fish was produced in the State and marketed in the different fish

markets of the State and Dehli.

FRESHWATER PRAWN PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION.

During the year 2016-17, an area of 93.74 hectare was brought under prawn farming and 540.2 Kgs. Of prawn

was produced in the State and marketed in the different fish markets of the State and in Nation Capital.
