CLIMATE SMART AGRICULTURE, RESEARCH & AGRI STACK SCHEME

As the world strives to combat climate change, agriculture has become a key area for

adaptation and mitigation efforts. Agriculture in Jharkhand state is also not untouched with

the effect of climate change. Farming is experiencing challenge from consecutive droughts,

conventional cropping pattern, redundant irrigation practices, use of chemical fertilizers &

pesticides, cultural practices etc. Climate smart agriculture (CSA) aims to make agricultural

systems more resistant to the effects of global warming. Precision agriculture platforms, also

attempting to boost farm efficiency and productivity with little environmental impact, have

contributed to the widespread adoption of climate smart farming.

Still, farmers, especially in Jharkhand may find it challenging to make the switch to climate smart

agriculture. Because of this, the government of Jharkhand has committed to support and promote

climate smart agriculture practice in state

Further, there is need to focus on state specific projects research and to develop long term plan

towards adoption & adaptation of best practices on climate smart agriculture.

Thirdly, there is emphasis on creation of data base of farmers, linking of land records with farmer’s

database, digital crop survey, creation of layers of database (AGRI STACK) satellite images of lands

and related information at a one place so that benefits & support of government may reach to

farmers in effective and transparent way while using single online platform. At the same time

different stakeholders may access the same for multiple interventions for improvement in service

deliveries.

Keeping above facts in view, Government of Jharkhand has initiated this scheme during financial

year 2024-25.

Objectives of Scheme:

1. To develop studies based suitable models on different Agro Climatic Zones of Jharkhand for

sustainable practices on climate smart agriculture/ climate resilient agriculture.

2. To develop appropriate farmer centric policies and schemes based on outcomes of studies

to ensure better production and improved crop productivity thereby securing farmer’s

income.

3. To develop comprehensive strategies and SOP for Climate smart Agriculture for managing

agricultural lands, crops, livestock, and forest that counteracts the negative impacts of

climate change on agricultural productivity.

4. To promote & support focused research & projects on Climate smart agriculture and allied

sector and inclusion of research outcomes into policies of the government.

5. To promote, spread awareness and publicize the climate smart agriculture and also to

introduce precision agricultural and allied technologies at farming level.

6. To develop and execute projects on online data base creation of farmers, land & crop survey

& crop surveillance system (AGRI STACK& Digital Agriculture) by use of web app/ GIS

technology for monitoring of related resources and infrastructure etc.
