Karnataka under clause (3) of Article 348 of the Constitution of India,-
KARNATAKA ORDINANCE NO. 06 OF 2022
THE KARNATAKA GRAM SWARAJ AND PANCHAYAT RAJ (AMENDMENT)
ORDINANCE, 2022
(Promulgated by the Governor of Karnataka in the Seventy third year of the
Republic of India and First published in the Karnataka Gazette Extra-ordinary
on the 22nd day of August, 2022)
An Ordinance further to amend the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat
Raj Act, 1993 (Karnataka Act 14 of 1993) and for matters connected therewith or
incidental thereto;
Whereas the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and the Karnataka Legislative
Council are not in session and the Governor of Karnataka is satisfied that the
circumstances exist which render it necessary for him to take immediate action to
promulgate an Ordinance for the purposes hereinafter appearing;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article
213 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Karnataka is pleased to
promulgate the following Ordinance, namely:-
1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Ordinance may be called the
Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022.
(2) It shall come into force at once.

2. Amendment of section 121.- In section 121 of the Karnataka Gram
Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act, 1993 (Karnataka Act 14 of 1993) (hereinafter
referred to as the Principal Act),-
(a) in clause (i), for the words “two lakhs” the words “two lakh thirty
thousand” shall be substituted; and
(b) in clause (ii), for the words “two lakhs” the words “two lakh thirty
thousand” shall be substituted.
3. Amendment of section 160.- In section 160 of the Principal Act,-
(a) for the words “not less than twenty persons” the words “not less than
twenty five members” shall be substituted; and
(b) after the proviso, the following shall be inserted, namely:-
“Provided further that, in case of a district having rural population of more
than seven lakhs but not more than nine lakhs fifty thousand there shall be twenty
eight elected members.”
