NOTIFICATION
Whereas, the draft of Karnataka General Service (Motor Vehicles Branch)
(Recruitment) (Amendment) Rules, 2022 was published as required by clause (a) of sub-section
2 of section 3 read with section 8 of Karnataka State Civil Services Act, 1978 (Karnataka Act 14 of
1990) in Notification No.: SARIE 40 SAESE 2021 (P-1), Bengaluru Dated:20-09-2022 in Part IVA
vide No.: 469 of the Karnataka Gazette Extraordinary, Dated:20-09-2022 inviting objection and
suggestions from persons likely to be affected within 15 days from the date of its publication in the
Official Gazette.
Whereas, the said gazette was made available to public on 20-09-2022.
And whereas the objections and suggestions received in this behalf have been
considered by the State Government.
Now, therefore in exercise the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 read
with section 8 of The Karnataka State Civil Services Act, 1978 (Karnataka Act 14 of 1990)
the Government of Karnataka hereby makes the following rules, namely:-
RULES
1. Title and Commencement:- (1) These rules may be called the Karnataka
General Service (Motor Vehicles Branch) (Recruitment) (Amendment) Rules, 2022.
(2) They shall come into force from the date of their final publication in the
Official Gazette.

2. Amendment to the Schedule.- (i) In the Karnataka General Service (Motor
Vehicles Branch) (Recruitment) Rules, 2021, in Schedule I,-
(i) In the entries relating to the category of post of " Regional Transport
Officer” at Serial No:5, in column No.4 for the words, brackets and figures
“Karnataka Civil Services (Direct recruitment through competitive exams and
selection) (General) Rules, 2006 ” the words, brackets and figures “ the Karnataka
Civil Services (Direct recruitment) (General) Rules, 2021 ” shall be substituted.
(ii) In the entries relating to the category of post of “Inspector of Motor
Vehicles" at serial No. 9, for the entries in column No. 4 and 5, the following shall
be substituted, namely:-

(1). Must have passed SSLC Examination or
possess equivalent qualification ;
(2). Must possess a Diploma in Automobile
Engineering or Mechanical Engineering of
three
years
duration
awarded
by
any
institution
recognized
by
the
Central
Government or State Government; or a degree
in Automobile Engineering or Mechanical
Engineering from an University established by
law;
(3). Hold a Driving License authorizing to drive
motor cycle with gear and light motor vehicles;
and
(4). Must possess the following minimum
physical standards namely:-
(A) For men
Height : 168 Cms
Chest girth: 86 Cms when fully expanded
(minimum expansion must be 5 Cms.)
(B)For Women
(a) Height :157 Cms
(b) Weight :49 Kg

Each eye must have full field vision. Colour
blindness, squint or any morbid conditions of
the eyes or lids of either eye shall be
disqualification.
(b) Hearing:

(ii) Webber’s test
(iii) Tests for vertigo
Any defect observed during the test
mentioned above shall be a disqualification.
(c) Anyone of the following shall also be
physical disqualifications;
(i)
Knock-knees
(ii) Bow legs
(iii) Flat feet
(iv) Varicose Veins
(d) Must be free from all congenital diseases
and or deformities as certified by Medical
Board constituted for this purpose.
For Promotion.-
(1) Must possess the educational qualification
and physical standards as prescribed for
direct recruitment.

(2) Must have put in a service of not less than
eight years in Group-C cadres of which must
have served at least three years in the cadre of
First Division Assistant or Stenographer or
Senior Typist or Senior Drivers and not less
than three years from the date of acquiring
educational qualification prescribed for direct
recruitment.
Provided that if an official who has put
in a service of not less than three years in
the cadre of First Division Assistant or
Stenographer or Senior Typist or Senior
Driver is not available then an official who
has put in a service of not less than two
years
in
the
above
cadres
may
be
considered for promotion.
(3) Must not have attained the age of fifty years
at the time of promotion.
Note:- A person in the cadre of First Division
Assistant or Stenographer or Senior Typist or
Senior Driver shall exercise an irrevocable
option either at the time of consideration of his
promotion to the cadre of superintendent or
Inspector of motor vehicles whichever is
earlier.
(iii) In the entries relating to the category of post of " Drivers” at Serial No:18,
in column No.4 for the words, brackets and figures “Karnataka Civil Services (Direct
recruitment through competitive exams and selection) (General) Rules, 2006 ” the
words, brackets and figures “ the Karnataka Civil Services (Direct recruitment)
(General) Rules, 2021” shall be substituted.

(iv) In the entries relating to the category of post of "Peon” at Serial No:21,
in column No.4 for the words, brackets and figures “Karnataka Civil Services (Direct
recruitment through competitive exams and selection) (General) Rules, 2006” the
words, brackets and figures “the Karnataka Civil Services (Direct recruitment)
(General) Rules, 2021” shall be substituted.
