Notification

In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 5 of the Karnataka

Grama Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act, 1993 (Karnataka Act No. 14 of 1993) read

with item 311, and to amend further the Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Reservation

of Seats in Grama Panchayats) Rules, 1998, the Government of Karnataka

hereby publishes the draft rules for the information of all persons likely to be

affected as specified in sub-section (1) of item 311 of the said Act and hereby

notifies that the said draft rules shall be taken into consideration after seven

days of their publication in the Official Gazette.

The State Government shall consider any objections and suggestions

received from any person within the period specified above with regard to these

draft rules. Objections and suggestions can be sent to the Secretary to the

Government (Panchayat Raj), Department of Rural Development and Panchayat

Raj, Multi-purpose Building, 3rd Stage, 3rd Floor, Dr. Ambedkar Veedhi,

Bengaluru-01.

Draft Rules

1. Title and Commencement.- (1) These rules shall be called the

Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Reservation of Seats in Gram Panchayats on

Rotation) (Amendment) Rules, 2026.

(2) They shall come into force from the date of their final publication in

the official Gazette.

2. Amendment of Rule 1.- In the Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Reservation of

Seats in Gram Panchayats on Rotation) Rules, 1998 (hereinafter referred

to as the said rules), in Rule 1, the words “Panchayat Raj” shall be

substituted with the words “Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj”.

3. Amendment of Rule 2.- In clause (a) of Rule 2 of the said rules, the

words “Panchayat Raj” shall be substituted with the words “Gram Swaraj

and Panchayat Raj”.

4. Amendment of Rule 3.- In sub-rules (1), (3), and (4) of Rule 3 of the

said rules, wherever the words “State Election Commission” occur, these

words shall be substituted with the words “Government”.
