THE KARNATAKA LAND REVENUE (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2026
(Received the assent of the Governor on the 3rd day of September, 2026)
An Act further to amend the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964.
Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Karnataka Land Revenue Act,
1964 (Karnataka Act 12 of 1964) for the purposes hereinafter appearing:
Be it enacted by the Karnataka State Legislature in the Seventy seventh year
of the Republic of India, as follows:-
1. Short title and commencement.-(1) This Act may be called the
Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Act, 2026.
(2) It shall come into force at once.

2. Amendment of section 2.- In the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964
(Karnataka Act 12 of 1964) (hereinafter referred to as the Principal Act), in
section 2,-
(i) for clause (1), the following shall be substituted namely:-
“(1) “abet” and shall have the same meaning as assigned in section 45 of
the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Central Act 45 of 2023);
(1-A) “admissibility of electronic records” shall have the same meaning
assigned in section 63 of Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (Central Act
No. 47 of 2023) ;
(1-B) “alienated” means transferred in so far as rights of the State Government to
payment of the rent or revenue are concerned, wholly or partially, to the ownership
of any person;”
(ii) for clause (4) the following shall be substituted, namely:-
“(4)“certified copy” or “Certified extract”, means copy or extract as the case
may be certified in the manner specified in section 75 of Bharatiya Sakshya
Adhiniyam, 2023 (Central Act No. 47 of 2023);”
(iii) after clause (5), the following shall be inserted, namely: –
(5-A) “cheating” shall have the same meaning as assigned in section 318 of
the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Central Act 45 of 2023);”
(iv) after clause (9), the following shall be inserted, namely:-
(9-A) “forgery” shall have the same meaning as assigned in sub-section (1) of
section 336 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Central Act 45 of 2023);”
(v)after clause (37) the following shall be inserted, namely:-
(37-A) “valuable security” means any paper, record, or document electronic
or otherwise, which can create, change, make, or end a legal claim irrespective of
whether it is valid or not, and shall include property sale deeds and land titles, will
and testament, revenue receipts and other documents submitted as proof in any
claim, right, title etc.,.”
3. Amendment of section 96.- In the Principal Act, in section 96,insub-
section (4), for the words, brackets and figures “the Deputy Commissioner or before
the expiry of the period prescribed in sub-section (5) of section 95 or in
contravention of an order passed or of a condition imposed under section 95, the

Deputy Commissioner”, the words, and figures “the Deputy Commissioner or
prescribed officer in contravention of an order passed or of a condition imposed
under section 95, the Deputy Commissioner or prescribed officer”, shall be
substituted.
4. Amendment of section 195.- In the Principal Act, in section 195,in sub-
section (2),the following proviso shall be inserted at the end, namely:-
“Provided that, the State Government, for reasons to be recorded in writing,
assign by an order, any officer or a group of officers subordinate to it or a specially
constituted committee which may or may not include experts in any relevant field
or retired members of the judiciary, any enquiry or investigation or study or
research into any matter related to this Act and rules made thereunder, subject to
such terms and conditions as may be specified in the said order and in accordance
with such procedure as may be prescribed.”
5. Amendment of section 197.- In the Principal Act, in section 197, in sub
section (2), after clause (oo), the following clause shall be inserted, namely:–
“(pp) Prescribing powers and procedures for identification and prosecution
of offences punishable under section 192-A.”

language under section 6 of the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development
Act, 2022 (Karnataka Act No. 13 of 2023).
