As required under Section 44 of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Act, 1994 it is hereby notified that

Dr. K. Ramachandran, Selection Grade Lecturer in Commerce, Government College, Attingal has been appointed as

Registrar of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady on deputation basis w.e.f. 6-9-2010 F.N. as resolved by the

6/10 (102^nd) meeting of the Syndicate of the University vide Special Agenda Item No. 1.

ORDINANCE No. II

1. Short title and commencement:—

(i)

This Ordinance may be called "The Constitution of the Department of Physical Education Ordinance, 2009".

(ii)

This Ordinance shall be deemed to have come into force from the first working day of the academic year

2009-10.

2.

Definitions:—The words and expressions used in the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Act, 1994

(5 of 1994) and the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Statutes, 1997 and used, but not defined in this

Ordinance shall have the meanings respectively assigned to them in the said Act or the Statutes.

3. Application:— The Ordinance is issued to re-organise the existing Department of Physical Education in to a

new Department of studies in Physical Education forming a constituent unit under the Faculty of Arts and Social

Sciences.

4. Constitution:—There shall be an Academic Department for providing advanced studies and research in Physical

Education under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

5. Head of the Department:—Subject to the provisions contained in the Act and the Statutes, the Department

shall be headed by the Senior Designated Teacher of the Department and shall be the Head of the Department.

6. Board of Studies:—There shall be a Board of Studies for the Department. Subject to the provisions contained in

the Act and the Statutes, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences shall be the ex-officio Chairman and the

Head of the Department shall be the ex-officio member.

7. Removal of difficulties:—If any difficulty arises in giving effect to the provisions of this Ordinance, the

Vice-Chancellor may issue necessary orders not inconsistent with the Act, Statutes and this Ordinance, to remove the

difficulties, to the extent it is expedient to remove the difficulty.

OBJECTIVES

The re-structuring of the B.A. Curriculum has necessitated the University to start open courses in Physical

Education. In order to streamline the academic activities of the Physical Education Curriculum and Syllabi as per the

restructured undergraduate programme as envisaged by the Kerala State Higher Education Council, the reorganisation of

the Department of Physical Education into an Academic Department is mandatory.

There are four Assistant Directors working in the Department of Physical Education on a regular basis. They are

appointed as per the norms prescribed by the UGC for the appointment of Teachers of Physical Education in the

University. Therefore, existing human resources of the Department can be fully utilised for the purpose, without any

additional financial commitment.

This ordinance is intended to achieve the above purpose.

STATEMENT ON FINANCIAL COMMITMENT

This Ordinance if implemented, will not incur any additional financial commitment to the general fund of the

University.
