Regulations relating to the Qualifications of Teachers.

“That in the Regulations relating to Qualifications of Teachers, the following be added as subclause (ii) and

subclause (iii) in clause 11 A ‘Teachers in Nanobiology’ Under Part II-Teachers of the University.”

“That in the Regulations relating to Qualifications of Teachers, the following be added as Subclause (iii) in

Clause 11, “Teachers in the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology under Part II—Teachers of the University.”

In exercise of the powers conferred on the Syndicate by virtue of section 36 of the Kerala University Act, 1974,

the Syndicate at its meeting held on 22-11-2014 have made the following amendments to the Kerala University First

Ordinances, 1978.

Amendment No. 250

“That in Chapter IV-Levy of Fees by the University of the Kerala University First Ordinances 1978, the following

be added as 5th item after 4th item in Clause II N First Degree Programmes under Choice Based Credit and Semester

(CBCS) System (Regular/Career related 2(a) & 2(b) courses”.)

5. The examination fee for First Degree Programme in Microbiology is that of B.Sc. Degree Programmes.

Regulations relating to the Qualifications of Teachers.

“That in the Regulations relating to Qualifications of Teachers, the following be added as Clause ‘11 A’ after

Clause 11 Teachers in the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology under Part II Teachers of the University”.

Biochemistry/Biotechnology or M. Tech. Degree in Nanoscience/Nanotechnology/Nanoscience and

Nanotechnology with Biological Science (Life Sciences/Zoology/Botany/Biochemistry/Biotechnology)

background at the Masters level of this University or the above degrees from any other University

recognized by this University, with not less than 55 % marks subject to the rules of relaxation of SC/ST

candidates (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed).

(ii) Ph. D. Degree in Nanoscience/Nanotechnology/Nanoscience and Nanotechnology/Nanobiology of this

University or from any other University recognized by this University. Ph. D. Degree in Life Sciences/

Zoology/Botany/Biochemistry/Biotechnology in the area of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology or

Nanobiology of this University or from any other University recognized by this University.

(iii) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test

(NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET.

(iv) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-clauses (i) and (ii) for Assistant Professor Candidates, who are,

or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum

Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) regulations 2009, shall be exempted from the

Requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET.

(v)

NET/SLET/SET shall not be required for such Masters Programme in disciplines for which NET/SLET/

SET is not conducted.

The above amendment to the Regulations was laid before the Senate at its meeting held on 21st March 2015 as

envisaged under section 39(1) of the Kerala University Act, 1974 and the same was declared as passed.

AMENDMENTS TO THE REGULATIONS RELATING TO THE FIRST DEGREE PROGRAMMES

UNDER CHOICE BASED CREDIT AND SEMESTER (CBCS) SYSTEM IN AFFILIATED

COLLEGES AND CENTRES OF THE UNIVERSITY

The Academic Council at its meeting held on 6th and 9th May 2014, approved the following amendments to the

Regulations to the First Degree Programmes under Choice Based Credit and Semester (CBCS) system.

Amendment No. 1

“That in the Regulations relating to First Degree Programmes under Choice Based Credit and Semester (CBCS)

System, sub clause 12.9 under sub clause 12.8 be substituted to read as follows”

12.9:

“For the successful completion of a semester a student has to score a minimum SGPA of 1.5. However

a student is permitted to move to the next semester irrespective of his/her SGPA”.

Amendment No. 2

“That in the Regulations relating to First Degree Programmes under Choice Based Credit and Semester(CBCS)

System, sub clause 12.12 under sub clause 12.11 be substituted to read as follows”

12.12: “For the successful completion of a programme and award of the Degree, a student must pass all courses

satisfying the minimum credit requirement as given in clause 7.8 and must score a minimum CGPA of 1.5

or an overall Grade of C.

Amendment No. 3

“That in the Regulations relating to First Degree Programmes under Choice Based Credit and Semester (CBCS)

System, sub clause 12.15 under sub c1ause l2.14 the first sentence of the second paragraph be substituted to read as

follows”

12.15: “However, students who fail to secure SGPA of 1.5 have to reappear for the ESE with the next regular

batch of students for such courses for which they have secured the least Grade for improving the SGPA”

Amendment No. 4

“That in the Regulations relating to First Degree Programmes under Choice Based Credit and Semester (CBCS)

System, sub clause 12.15 under sub clause 12.14 the first sentence of 3rd paragraph of clause 12.15 be substituted to

read as follows”

12.15: “In both cases (ie. failure to obtain ‘D’ Grade for individual course/courses and SGPA of 1.5) students

shall not be allowed to repeat the semester, but the Grades secured by them for the CE part shall be

carried over and added to the Grade obtained in the ESE they reappear.”

The above amendments to the regulations were laid before the Senate held on 21st March 2015 as envisaged

under Section 39(1) of the Kerala University Act 1974 and were declared as passed.

The Academic Council at its meeting held on 7th November 2013 approved the following amendments to the

Regulations relating to B.A./B.Sc. Degree Examinations.

Amendments to the Regulations relating to B.A./B. Sc. Degree Examinations

Amendment 1

“That in the Regulations relating to B.A./B. Sc. Degree Examinations, the following be added in last line of Clause

17 of B.Sc. Regulations:

“ .............................and optional change shall be permitted after cancellation of Registration/Examination of Part III

of the B.A./B. Sc. Examination already taken by the candidate”.

Such candidate shall be permitted to choose their subsidiary subjects already taken by them also as optional

subjects.

Amendment 2

“That in the Regulations relating to B.A./B. Sc. Degree Examinations, the following be added in last line of Clause

19 of B.A. Regulations:

“ .............................and optional change shall be permitted after cancellation of Registration/Examination of Part III

of the B.A./B. Sc. Examination already taken by the candidate”.

REGULATIONS RELATING TO P G DIPLOMA COURSE IN HOSPITAL

HYGIENE MANAGEMENT

The Academic Council at its meeting held on 6-5-2014 and 9-5-2014 approved the Regulations relating to

P G Diploma in Hospital Hygiene Management w.e.f. 2014 Admissions.

Regulations relating to PG Diploma Course in Hospital Hygiene Management

Preamble—At present there are no suitable Graduate or Post Graduate Courses on Bio-Medical Waste Management in

Kerala, though the number of health care Institutions in Kerala is very high. In these circumstances it is

proposed to start a Postgraduate Diploma Course on Post Graduate Diploma in Bio-Medical Waste

Management in Health Care Institutions (PGD-HHM).

Duration of Course—1 year

Eligibility:—A graduate degree in Science subjects, Nursing or any Paramedical Graduate.

Course Code:—IDE/IMA/PGD-HHM.

The Syllabus:—The Syllabus comprises of topics in order to enable the graduates to handle all matters in biomedical

waste handling, particularly towards planning, execution and maintenance of a healthy environment in a Health

Care institution and its premises.

Need for the course:—The Health Care sector in India, particularly in the State of Kerala is expanding day by day in size

as well as with numerous specialisations. But the non availability of personnel with adequate knowledge and

training in the fields of Biomedical waste handling, Hospital infection control, healthy house keeping, pest

control, etc. is causing very many problems in all health care institutions. At present these matters are dealt in

Maintenance of equipment, Quality management in Health Care Facilities, Patient satisfaction and Medical

audit, Consumer Protection Act (CPA), Hospital infection control, Biomedical waste management, Hospital

management information system and Computer Applications in hospitals.

Regulations relating to M.Sc. Degree Course in Home Science—

Nutrition and Dietetics (2013 Admission)

Introduction

The Subject of Home Science (Nutrition & Dietetics) is a unique Course that focuses upon every phase of human

life in health and disease. It touches every segment of the population men and women, the young and the old, the

enriched and the impoverished, the gifted and the disabled. It is also a course that encompasses every aspect of human

life-health and nutrition, diet and diseases, growth and development. Thus the scope of Home Science is not limited to

the activities within home, but has a wider perspective that forms the basis of challenging professions in varied fields.

The focus of Masters Programme in Nutrition & Dietetics is to develop professional skills in all aspects of

nutrition and dietetics. The curriculum focus at Post-graduate level to foster a firm theoretical background with

amalgamation of practical skills and development of research related abilities, so that the graduates are capable of

critical and analytical thinking. The students would be competent to address the health issues of the society.

The Programme would enable graduates to work as teachers at University Level Researchers, Registered

Dietitians, Co-ordinators/Supervisors/Programme planners in Government and Non-Governmental Organizations/Agencies

at National and International Level.

Objectives

The Post-Graduate Programme in Nutrition & Dietetics will focus on developing knowledge and competence for:

(i)

Teaching and research in academic and other institution.

(ii)

Nutritional care and diet counselling.

(iii)

Supervisory, training and consultancy roles and responsibilities in health care system.

(iv)

Planning, monitoring and evaluation of various Programmes related to health and disease.

Eligibility for the Course

For admission to the Post Graduate Programme in Nutrition & Dietetics the applicant must have B.Sc. Home

Science (with not less than 55% marks) recognized by the University of Kerala. Graduates in Food Science and Quality

Control candidates with B.Sc. Degree in Food Service Management & Dietetics/Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics and who

have studied chemistry as a compulsory subsidiary are also eligible.

The Regulations relating to M.Sc. Degree Course in Home Science Nutrition and Dietetics (2013 Admissions) was

laid before the Senate held on 21st March 2015 as envisaged under Section 39 (1) of the Kerala University Act, 1974

and the same was declared as passed.

DEGREES OF OTHER UNIVERSITIES

The Academic Council at its meeting held on 6-5-2014, 9-5-2014 and 29-11-2014 has approved the following

amendment to the Regulations relating to Recognition of Examinations/Degrees of State Boards/Statutory Universities/

Deemed Universities/other Institutions as equivalent to the corresponding Degrees/Diplomas/Examinations of the

University of Kerala.

Amendment

“That, in Chapter IV-Norms for granting Recognition/Equivalence to Examinations, Degrees etc. of Universities or

Board of foreign Countries of the Regulations relating to Recognition of examinations and Degrees of other

Universities, the following be added to the existing entries under relevant Universities/Institutions under the Heading
