NOTIFICATION

G.O. (P) No. 25/2023/F&WLD. Dated, Thiruvananthapuram, 8^th December 2023.

WHEREAS, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub section (1) of section 18 of the

Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 (Central Act 53 of 1972), the Government of Kerala, as per

notification issued under G.O(P) No. 26/2009/F&WLD dated 5^th June, 2009 and published as

S.R.O. No.445/2009 in the Kerala Gazette Extraordinary No.1010 dated 5^th June, 2009, have

declared the intention to constitute 7421.5015 Hectares of land comprised in survey numbers

568, 902/Pt, 805, 912 and 911 in Chakkittapara and Chembanoda Villages of

Koyilandy Taluk in Kozhikkode District as a Sanctuary to be known as “Malabar Wildlife

Sanctuary";

AND WHEREAS, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 18B of the Wildlife

(Protection) Act 1972 (Central Act 53 of 1972), the Government of Kerala, as per

notification issued under G.O.(P) No.32/2009/F&WLD dated 4^th July, 2009 and published as

S.R.O. No.573/2009 in the Kerala Gazette Extraordinary No.1208 dated 4^th July, 2009, had

appointed the Revenue Divisional Officer, Kozhikkode to act as ‘Collector’ under the

Act to inquire into and determine the existence, nature and extent of rights of any person

in or over the land comprised within the limits of the above said sanctuary;

Now, THEREFORE, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 18B of the Wildlife

(Protection) Act, 1972 (Central Act 53 of 1972) and in supersession of the notification issued

under G.O.(P) No.32/2009/F&WLD dated 4^th July, 2009 and published as S.R.O. No.573/2009

in the Kerala Gazette Extraordinary No.1208 dated 4^th July 2009, the Government of Kerala

hereby appoint the Revenue Divisional Officer, Vadakara to act as ‘Collector’ under the Act

to inquire into and determine the existence, nature and extent of right of any person in or over

the land comprised within the limits of the above said sanctuary.

Explanatory Note

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 18 of the Wildlife

(Protection) Act, 1972 (Central Act 53 of 1972), the Government of Kerala, vide notification

issued under G.O.(P) No.26/2009/F&WLD dated 5^th June, 2009 and published as S.R.O.

No.445/2009 in the Kerala Gazette Extraordinary No.1010 dated 5^th June, 2009 have declared

the intention to constitute 7421.5015 Hectares of land comprised in survey numbers 568,

902/Pt, 805, 912 and 911 in Chakkittapara and Chembanoda Villages of Koyilandy Taluk in

Kozhikkode District as a Wildlife Sanctuary to be known as “Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary”.

The Government of Kerala, by exercising the powers conferred by section 18B of the Wildlife

(Protection) Act, 1972 (Central Act 53 of 1972), vide notification issued under

G.O.(P)No.32/2009/F&WLD dated 4^th July , 2009 and published as S.R.O. No.573/2009 in the

Kerala Gazette Extraordinary No.1208 dated 4^th July, 2009 had appointed the Revenue

Divisional Officer, Kozhikkode to act as ‘Collector’ under the Act to inquire into and

determine the existence, nature and extent of right of any person in or over the land comprised

within the limits of the above said sanctuary. A new Revenue Divisional Office has come into

operation at Vadakara by including the taluks of Koyilandi and Vadakara in Kozhikode

district. As per the notification issued under G.O.(P) No.32/2009/F&WLD dated 4^th July

2009 and published as S.R.O. No.573/2009 in the Kerala Gazette Extraordinary No.1208 dated

4^th July 2009, Government have entrusted Kozhikkode Revenue Divisional Officer to act as

‘Collector’ under section 18B of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 (Central Act 53 of 1972)

to inquire into and determine the existence, nature and extent of right of any person in or

over the land comprised within the limits of the “Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary”. Therefore,

Government have decided to appoint the Revenue Divisional Officer, Vadakara to act as

‘Collector’ under section 18B of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 (Central Act 53 of 1972) to

inquire into and the determine the existence, nature and extent of rights of any person in or

over the land comprised within the limits of the “Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary”.

The notification is intended to achieve the above object.
