NOTIFICATION

WHEREAS, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 8A of the

Consumer Protection Act, 1986 (Central Act 68 of 1986) read with rule 5 of the Kerala

Consumer Protection Rules, 2005, the Government of Kerala had established the District

Consumer Protection Council for Idukki District as per notification issued under G. O. (Ms.)

No. 28/2007 dated the 22nd June, 2007 and published as S. R. O. No. 567/2007 in the Kerala

Gazette Extraordinary No. 1203 dated the 26th June, 2007;

AND WHEREAS, the Government had reconstituted the said Council as per notification

issued under G. O. (Ms.) No. 3/2015/CAD dated 13th May, 2015 and published as

S. R. O. No. 318/2015 in the Kerala Gazette Extraordinary No. 1179 dated 16th May, 2015;

AND WHEREAS, the term of members of the said Council had expired on 31st May,

2018 as per sub-rule (2) of rule 5 of the Kerala Consumer Protection Rules, 2005;

AND WHEREAS, the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 (Central Act 68 of 1986) was

repealed by virtue of Section 107 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (Central Act 35 of

2019) and the Kerala Consumer Protection Rules, 2005 was superseded by Kerala Consumer

Protection Rules, 2021;

AND WHEREAS, the Government have decided to reconstitute the District Consumer

Protection Council for Idukki District;

NOW, THEREFORE, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 8

of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (Central Act 35 of 2019) read with rule 5 of the Kerala

Consumer Protection Rules, 2021, Government of Kerala hereby reconstitute the District

Consumer Protection Council for Idukki District for a period of four years with effect from

20th January, 2025 consisting of the following members, namely:—

(a) District Collector, Idukki

(b) Three Members representing the Kerala Legislative Assembly nominated by

the Government

Explanatory Note

(This does not form part of the notification, but is intended to indicate its general

purport.)

As per sub-section (1) of Section 8 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (Central Act

35 of 2019) the State Government shall establish, by notification, for every district, a District

Consumer Protection Council to be known as the District Council. The term of the nominated

members of the present District Consumer Protection Council, Idukki District reconstituted as

per notification issued under G. O. (Ms.) No. 3/2015/CAD dated 13th May, 2015 and

published as S. R. O. No. 318/2015 in the Kerala Gazette Extraordinary No. 1179 dated

16th May, 2015 expired on 31st May, 2018. The Government have therefore decided to

reconstitute the District Consumer Protection Council, Idukki.

The notification is intended to achieve the above object.
