LADAKH, THE 14^th OF AUGUST, 2026

S.O. 245 — In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (i) and (iii) of Rule 8 of the Census Rules, 1990, the

Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh hereby republishes the Notification S.O. 4301(E) dated: 3rd August,

2026 issued by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi,

published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary, appended to this notification for general public information.

Notification

New Delhi, the 3rd August 2026

S.O. 4301(E).In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948) read

with rule 6A and 6D of the Census Rules, 1990, the Central Government hereby declares that-

(i)

The conduct of Census of the population shall be undertaken in the Union territory of Ladakh and the

snow bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the snow-

bound non-synchronous areas of the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, from 1^st

September, 2026 to 30^th September, 2026 with a revisional round from 1^st October, 2026 to 5^th

October, 2026;

(ii) For the conduct of the above Census, there shall be an option for self- enumeration from 17^th August,

2026 to 31^st August, 2026 just before the start of house-to-house population enumeration;

(iii) The reference date for the Census in the Union territory of Ladakh and snow bound non-synchronous

areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the snow-bound non-synchronous areas of

the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand shall be 00.00 hours of the first day of October,

2026; and

(iv) The details of snowbound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir as

well as the snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand

may be accessed by visiting the website- https://censusindia.gov.in/census.website/data/CGAZ.
