F. No.66/33/2019-E&F(P&L)/356:- Whereas, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and

Climate Change has directed the states and union territories to prohibit the manufacture,

sale, storage, purchase and the use of Chinese manjha/nylon/synthetic/glass-coated threads

for kite flying.

And whereas, the use of Chinese manjha/nylon/synthetic/glass-coated threads for

kite flying is posing serious threat to human, wildlife and the environment.

Now, therefore, it is directed under the provisions of Section 5 of the Environment

(Protection) Act, 1986 that no person shall manufacture, sell, store, purchase and use the

Chinese manjha/nylon/synthetic/glass-coated threads for kite flying. This ban will prevail in

all the Islands including territorial waters of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.

Any violation of above direction will lead to punishment under the provisions

of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 , Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, plastic Waste

Management Rules 2016 and the Indian Penal Code. Violation of this direction shall be

punishable accordingly under respective statutes.
