NOTIFICATION

The Department of Health Research, Ministry of

Health and Family Welfare, Government of India,

New Delhi has proposed to initiate three new schemes

including the scheme for ‘Establishment of Model Rural

Health Research Units (MRHRUs)’ in the States during

the 12th Plan period.

2. The scheme is a part of the many initiatives

undertaken by the Department of Health Research to

strengthen the health research infrastructure in the

country. The main objective of the scheme is to improve

country’s health care delivery in rural settings, through

transfer of modern technologies for diagnosis and

better management of patients to reduce the disease

burden in the concerned area/region. The Units will be

set up at Block level, in close proximity to the

Community Health Centres/Primary Health Centres.

Each MRHRU will be linked to the nearest ICMR

institute to mentor and guide the research activities of

MRHRU relevant to local needs. The MRHRUs would

provide a platform for interface between the new

technology developers (Researchers from the Central

Institutions, Medical Colleges, etc.), State Health Service

personnel and the beneficiaries.

3. Accordingly, approval is hereby accorded for the

establishment of the Model Rural Health Research

Unit (MRHRU) at Community Health Centre,

Karikkalampakkam, Puducherry and to declare the

Community Health Centre, Karikkalampakkam as Rural

Health Training Centre instead of Primary Health Centre,

Bahour already declared as Rural Health Training Centre

vide Order No. 3201/H7/Health/2013-14, dated 10-9-2013

of Secretary to Government (Health).

4. The Model Rural Health Research Unit (MRHRU)

proposed to be established at Community Health

Centre, Karikkalampakkam will be under the direct

administrative control of the Indira Gandhi Medical

College and Research Institute functioning under the

control of Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Medical College

Society, Puducherry.
