NOTIFICATION

Whereas, the Managing Director, Puducherry Tourism Development

Corporation Ltd., Puducherry has requested the Transport Department to

permit use of name/logo of PTDC Ltd., Puducherry along with painting

of different colours in 250 auto rickshaws identified under a “Tourist

Friendly Auto” scheme proposed by the Puducherry Tourism Development

Corporation Ltd., Puducherry (A Government of Puducherry Undertaking);

And whereas, it is stated that these autos will be painted with

specific logo for easy identification and to promote tourism and the auto

drivers will be trained on certain parameters, courtesy and friendliness

and various tourist places of importance, identity cards and badges will

be issued to them, besides including periodical counseling to the

drivers. It is further sated that the present proposal besides aimed at

improving standard of living to the drivers also provides unique

identification from other auto drivers;

And whereas, the request of PTDC Ltd., Puducherry has been

carefully considered by the Transport Department and as provided under

rule 122 and 123 read with rule 179 of the Puducherry Motor Vehicles

Rules, 1989, the Government has decided to exempt the 250 auto

rickshaws as identified by the PTDC Ltd., under the said scheme from

the provisions of rule 179 of the Puducherry Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989;

Now, therefore, the Lieutenant-Governor, Puducherry is pleased to

accept the said proposal and for the said purpose, permission is hereby

granted to use the name/logo of PTDC Ltd., Puducherry along with

painting of different colours in the auto rickshaws under the scheme

"Tourist Friendly Auto" proposed by the Puducherry Tourism Development

Corporation Ltd., Puducherry (A Government of Puducherry Undertaking),

subject to the following guidelines to be followed in identifying the auto

rickshaws to ensure safe and affordable transport:-

(i) The auto rickshaw driver should be an owner-cum-driver

holding a single auto rickshaw permit.

(ii) Non-conviction certificate issued by Police Department is a

must to a permit holder to ensure safety to the tourists.

(iii) The auto rickshaw should be fixed Electronic Fare Meter

fitted with GPRS facility, HSRP number plates and should display

the driver identity card issued by PTDC.

(iv) The permit holder should have at least 3 years of experience

in driving auto rickshaws and will be trained in various parameters

like courtesy, friendliness and various tourist places by Puducherry

Tourism Development Corporation Ltd.

(v) The vehicle should not be more than 5 years old and should

always carry valid documents like registration certificate, driving

licence, insurance, etc.

2. This notification shall come into force on and from the date of

publication in the official gazette.
