NOTIFICATION

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of section 5 of the

Puducherry Excise Act, 1970 (No. 12 of 1970), the Lieutenant-Governor, Puducherry,

hereby appoints the Sector Officers, appointed for election duties as Excise

Inspectors under the said Act within the limits of their respective jurisdiction,

to exercise the powers and perform the duties of the Excise Inspectors under the said

Act, for the period from the 22nd April, 2016 to 19th May, 2016.

NOTIFICATION

Whereas, the General Elections to the Puducherry Legislative Assembly

Constituencies are scheduled to be held on 16th May, 2016 and counting of votes

polled, on 19th May, 2016 in the Union Territory of Puducherry;

And whereas, it is essential to ensure that the Elections are to be conducted

in a fair and peaceful manner;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred under rule 199 of the

Puducherry Excise Rules, 1970, the Lieutenant-Governor, Puducherry, hereby directs

that all the Arrack, Toddy and Liquor shops, Clubs, Bars and Restaurants serving

liquor in the whole of the Union Territory of Puducherry shall remain closed for

three days from 14th May, 2016 to 16th May, 2016 (both days inclusive) on account

of polling and on 19th May, 2016 on account of counting of votes.
