NOTIFICATION
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 62 of the Building and
Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions
of Service) Act, 1996 (Central Act 27 of 1996), the Lieutenant-Governor,
Puducherry, hereby makes the following rules further to amend the
Pondicherry Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of
Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2001 issued in G.O. Ms.
No. 25/2001/Lab./AIL/G, dated 28th August 2001, of the Labour
Department, Government of Puducherry and published in Part-II of the
Extraordinary Gazette No. 14, dated 29th August 2001, namely:–

1. Short title and commencement.— (1) These rules may be called
the Pondicherry Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation
of Employment and Conditions of Service) Amendment Rules, 2017.
(2) They shall come into force on and from the date of their
publication in the Official Gazette.
2. Amendment to rule 273.— In the Pondicherry Building and
Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions
of Service) Rules, 2001 (hereinafter referred to as the said rules), in rule
273 of the said rules, for the existing words and figures “ Rs. 3,000”, the
symbol and figures “` 5,000” shall be substituted.
3. Amendment to rule 279.— In rule 279 of the said rules, for the
existing words and figures “Rs. 5,000”, the symbol and figures “` 7,000”
shall be substituted.
4. Insertion of new rule 280-A.— In the said rules, after rule 280,
the following shall be inserted, namely:–
“280-A The Board may extend the death benefit of ` 2.25 lakhs
to the dependants of the members, who die in harness in addition
to the insurance benefit of ` 75,000. Further, the dependants of
members who succumbed to untimely death will be paid with a death
benefit of ` 70,000 in addition to the insurance coverage of ` 30,000”.
5. Amendment of rule 282.— In the existing rule 282, the following
shall be substituted, namely:–
“The Board may sanction financial assistance for an amount
of
` 75,000 as compensation to the beneficiaries who sustained
permanent total disablement arising out of accident and in the
course of employment. In case of permanent partial disablement,
the Board may sanction compensation on pro-rata basis depending
upon the extent of disability. Further, for the existing words and
figures “Rs. 200”, the symbol and figures “` 500 simbol shall be
substituted. For the existing words and figures “` 20” the symbol
and figures “` 50” shall be substituted and for the existing words
and figures “Rs. 720” the symbol and figures “` 1,500” shall be
substituted and for the word “disability” the “temporary disability”
shall be substituted”.

6. Amendment to rule 284.— In rule 284 of the said rules, for the
existing words and figures "Rs. 5000/-" the symbol and figures “` 7,000”
shall be substituted. A male beneficiary shall also be eligible for his own
marriage and the assistance will be extended only for one marriage.
7. Amendment to rule 287.— In sub-rule (2) of rule 287, for the
existing words “one year”, the words “six months” shall be substituted.
