NOTIFICATION
The Lieutenant-Governor is pleased to establish a permanent Medical
Board in Rajiv Gandhi Government Women and Child Hospital (RGGW&CH),
Puducherry, with the composition of the following experts group to examine and
provide opinion for late term termination of Pregnancy beyond 20 weeks of gestation,
as per the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and as per the letter
D.O. No. 12015/58/2017-MCH, dated 14-08-2017, of the Secretary, Department of Health
and Family Welfare, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India,
New Delhi.

2. The Resident Medical Officer, Rajiv Gandhi Government Women and
Child Hospital, Puducherry, who is the Liaison Officer will liaise with the Hon’ble
Supreme Court/High Court/District Court and Medical Board and shall be
responsible for smooth functioning of the Board as well as communication between
the Hon'ble Supreme Court/High Court/District Court and Medical Board
3. The Assistant Director, Department of Women and Child Development,
Puducherry, will be the Social Protection Officer in the Committee, in case of request
for termination on grounds of rape as per the guidance.
4. If, any of the above Board Members is not available at the point of time
of discussion on a case, may be suitably substituted by another Member by the
Medical Superintendent or Resident Medical Officer.
5. The function of the Board is to examine the minor girls or women when
referred by the Hon’ble Supreme Court/High Court/District Court for late term
termination and provide opinion regarding termination or continuation of pregnancy
and its impact of on her health as well as on foetal condition/foetal health.
6. The Medical Board will meet immediately after receiving any orders from
the Hon’ble Supreme Court/High Court/District Court. The Medical Superintendent,
on behalf of the Board, shall submit their confidential and sealed comprehensive
report on the prescribed format to the Hon’ble Courts for necessary action within
stipulated time or as directed by the Hon’ble Court.
7. This issues with the concurrence of Finance Department, Puducherry
vide I. D. Note No. 2651/FC/FD/F4/A1/11, dated 17-01-2019.
