NOTIFICATION

In exercise of the powers conferred under section 65 of the

Puducherry Municipalities Act, 1973 (No. 9 of 1973) and all other powers

enabling the Lieutenant-Governor, Puducherry, in this behalf and in

partial modification of the Puducherry Municipal Councils (Conduct of

Election of Chairman) Rules, 1996, the Lieutenant-Governor, Puducherry,

is pleased to make the following amendments to the abovesaid rules,

namely:-

[PART–II

1. Short title, extent and commencement.— (1) These rules may

be called the Puducherry Municipal Councils (Conduct of Election of

Chairman) [Amendment] Rules, 2021.

(2) They shall extend to the whole of the Union territory of

Puducherry.

(3) They shall come into force with immediate effect.

2. Amendment of rule 5.— In rule 5 of the Puducherry Municipal

Councils (Conduct of Election of Chairman) Rules, 1996, for the existing

second proviso clause, after the words “Scheduled Caste”, the following

words shall be inserted namely -

“or Scheduled Tribe”.
