NOTIFICATION

The Lieutenant-Governor, Puducherry, is pleased to

constitute the Committee in the Union territory of

Puducherry for examining and recommend the

Government on the suitability of the renaming of the

sub-castes ‘Pallan’ as ‘Devendrakula Velalar’ and

‘Chakkiliyan’ as ‘Arunthathiyar’ with immediate effect:

The Committee shall comprise the following

Members:

1. The Development Commissioner-cum- . . Chairman

Secretary to Government (Revenue),

Puducherry.

2. Secretary, Adi Dravidar Welfare and . . Member

Scheduled Tribes Welfare, Puducherry.

3. Special Secretary (Revenue)-cum-

. . Member

District Collector-cum-District

Magistrate, Puducherry.

4. Secretary, Law Department,

. . Member

Puducherry.

5. Director, Adi Dravidar Welfare and . . Member-

Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department,

Secretary.

Puducherry.

The above Committee shall be responsible for:

– Examining the petition received from the

concerned Welfare Associations.

– Scrutinizing the claims of the Welfare

Associations.

– Assessing the implications of renaming the

sub-castes.

– Making recommendations to the Government of

Puducherry regarding the renaming of the

sub-castes.

2. The Committee shall submit its report after

completion of their examination for recommendation of

Government of Puducherry.

3. The Member-Secretary, Adi Dravidar Welfare and

Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department, shall also be

responsible

for

ensure

that

the

Committee’s

proceedings and recommendations are properly

documented and recorded.
