STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS
To promote the industries in Punjab there is a need to increase the
existing limit when Contract Act comes into force. At present it gets attracted
when 20 or more workmen are employed. Many other states have amended
section 1(4) (a)&(b) of The Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act
1970 by increasing the thresh-hold limit from 20 workmen to 50 workmen.
Therefore to provide level playing field to industries of Punjab we should
amend section 1(4)(a)&(b) of The Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition)
Act 1970.
Hence, the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) (Punjab
Amendment) Bill, 2020.
