NOTIFICATION

The 8th September, 2020

No. 1/75/2016-1J/1429.–In exercise to the powers conferred under section 3(1) of the Punjab Prisons

Development Board Act, 2020 and all other powers enabling him in this behalf, the Governor of Punjab is

pleased to constitute the Punjab Prisons Development Board (hereinafter referred to as the Board) with

immediate effect.

i)

Constitution of the Board.- As per section 3 (4) of the Punjab Prisons Development Board

Act, 2020 the board shall consist of following members,namely:-

(a)

Chief Minister;

Chairperson

(b)

Minister for Prisons;

Senior Vice-Chairperson

(c)

Additional Chief Secretary or

Vice Chairperson

Principal Secretary or Secretary to Government of Punjab,

Department of Home Affairs, Justice and Jails;

(d)

Additional Chief Secretary or

ex-officio Member

Principal Secretary to Government of Punjab,

Department of Revenue and Rehabilitation;

(e)

Additional Chief Secretary or

ex-officio Member

Principal Secretary to Government of Punjab ,

Department of Finance;

(f)

Legal Remembrancer and Secretary

ex-officio Member

to Government of Punjab, Department

of Legal and Legislative Affairs;

(g)

Registrar General,

ex-officio Member

Punjab and Haryana High Court;

(h)

Director, Prosecution and

ex-officio Member

Litigation, Punjab;

(i)

two non-official persons to be nominated by the Government,

Non-official Members

out of whom at least one shall be a woman and who have

distinguished themselves in the field of prison administration or

prison reforms;

(j)

two prison officers holding posts of

Members

Superintendent of Central Jail or its equivalent or above,

to be nominated by the Government; and

(k)

Director General of Prisons or

Member-Secretary

Additional Director General of Prisons

ii)

Headquater of the Board.- The Board shall have headquarters at Punjab Prisons Headquater

SCO No 8 and 9, Rattan Building , Sector 17 A, Chandigarh.

2.

The Board shall function as per the provisions of The Punjab Prisons Development Board Act, 2020

and Rules made thereunder.
