the notification published in the Gazette of India No. 4729/S.O. 4729 (E) dated the 5th September, 2026 as per

instruction issued by the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India vide No. 9/10/2025-CD (Cen) dated

the 5th September, 2026 as under: -

NOTIFICATION

New Delhi, the 5th September, 2026

S.O. 4729 (E). – In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948)

read with rules 6A and 6D of the Census Rules, 1990, the Central Government hereby declares that-

The conduct of Census of the population shall be undertaken in the States of Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab

and areas other than snow-bound areas of the State of Uttarakhand, from 1st December, 2026 to 4th

January, 2027 with a revisional round from 5th January, 2027 to 9th January, 2027;

ii.

For the conduct of the above Census, there shall be an option for self- enumeration from 16th November,

2026 to 30th November, 2026 just before the start of house-to-house population enumeration,

iii.

The reference date for the Census in the States of Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and areas other than

snow-bound areas of the State of Uttarakhand shall be 00.00 hours of the 5th day of January, 2027.
