In exercise of the powers conferred by rule 8 and 10 of the Tamil Nadu Panchayats (Elections) Rules,

1995 and in supersession of the Notification No.VI(2)/91(d-3)/2016, Published at Part VI – Section 2 of the

Tamil Nadu Government Gazette Extraordinary No.180, dated August 8, 2016, at page 15, the Tamil Nadu

State Election Commission hereby authorises the District Election Officers to make appointment of Returning

Officers and Assistant Returning Officers for the conduct of election of Ward Members of the District Panchayat,

Panchayat Union Councils and Village Panchayats and also for the conduct of the election of Presidents of

Village Panchayats within their respective jurisdiction in connection with the conduct of Elections to Panchayats.

In exercise of the powers conferred under rule 9 of the Tamil Nadu Town Panchayats, Third Grade

Municipalities, Municipalities and Corporations (Elections) Rules, 2006 and in supersession of the Notification

No.180 under No. VI(2)/91(d-4)/2016 published at Page 15 of Part VI – Section 2 of the Tamil Nadu Government

Gazette Extraordinary, dated the 8th August, 2016, the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission hereby directs

the District Election Officers except in the District of Chennai to appoint within their respective jurisdictions the

Executive Officer of the Town Panchayat or Third Grade Municipality or the Commissioner of Municipality or City

Municipal Corporation respectively or any other officer of the Government as Returning Officer for the conduct

of election to the Town Panchayat or Third Grade Municipality or Municipality or City Municipal Corporation, as

the case may be, under the said Rules.
