In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 22 of the Tamil Nadu Lifts and Escalators

Act, 1997(Tamil Nadu Act 35 of 1997), the Governor of Tamil Nadu hereby makes the following amendments to the

Tamil Nadu Lifts and Escalators Rules,1997:-

In the said rules, -

(1) in rule 2, for sub-rule (e), the following sub-rule shall be substituted, namely:-

“(e) Local Authority means -

(i) any Municipal Corporation established under any law for the time being in force; or body of Port Commissioners

or other authority legally entitled to, or entrusted by the Union or any State Government with the control or management

of any area or local fund;

(ii) any Town Panchayat or Municipal Council constituted under the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act,1920

(Tamil Nadu Act V of 1920); or

(iii) any District Panchayat or any Panchayat Union Council or any Village Panchayat constituted under the

Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act,1994 (Tamil Nadu Act 21 of 1994);”

(2) in rule 3, in sub-rule (1), in clause (b),-

(1) in sub-clause (xvii), for the expression “Urban Local Body”, the expression “Local Authority”

shall be substituted;

(2) in sub-clause (xviii), in item (a), for the expression “5 landings”, the expression “upto fi ve landings”

shall be substituted;

(8) in Form A, in the tabular column, for the expression “Urban Local Body” in column (2) against Serial No.3(b)

in column (1) thereof, the expression, “Local Authority” shall be substituted;

(9) in Form G, under the heading “Enclosure”, in Serial Number (5), for the expression “Urban Local Body”, the

expression “Local Authority” shall be substituted;

(10) in Form M, in the heading, for the expression “ESCALATORS”, the expression “LIFTS” shall be substituted.
