Fire Service Medal for Gallantry to the under mentioned

offi cer of Tamil Nadu Fire & Rescue Services:-

FIREMAN.

2. On 13-03-2019 at 0200 hrs a rescue call received

at Fire & Rescue Station, Pollachi, Distt. Coimbatore from

Gomangalam Police Station that a car heading towards

Coimbatore had fallen into the PAP canal, full of water,

near Gedimedu, in Pollachi-Palani NH road. Immediately

a rescue team from Pollachi Station rushed to the

spot. On arrival, the crew observed that the canal is

20 feet wide, 15 feet deep. Water is fl owing up to the

brim with water current approximately 1000 cubic feet

per second. Fireman Sh.Umapathi Dhandapani without

caring to the risk involved to his own life, he plung into

the canal with the help of a crane and identifi ed the car at

the bottom of the canal. The fi reman noticed a young lady,

who had lost her life, in semi-nude condition. He arranged

one saree from the persons standing on the banks of the

canal and approached the dead body below the water level

and lifted up her after neatly covered with saree. Again he

approached to the bottom of the canal and made arrangement

for lifting of the car and 7 other dead bodies.

3. Fireman, Sh.Umapathi Dhandapani thus displayed

conspicuous gallantry, exemplary courage, professional

expertise and devotion to duty of a very high order.

4. These awards are made for Gallantry under Rule 3(i)

of the Rules governing the award of Fire Service Medal for

Gallantry and consequently carries with it special allowance

admissible under rule 5 (a) w.e.f. 13-03-2019.

Explanations.- (1) Dearness Allowance.- In addition

to the minimum rate of basic wages as fi xed above, the

employees shall be paid dearness allowance as indicated

below :-

(i) The dearness allowance is linked to the Average

Chennai City Consumer Price Index for the year 2010, that

is 161 points (with base year 2001 = 100) and for every

raise of one point over and above 161 points, an increase

of Rs.50/- (Rupees Fifty only) per month shall be paid as

dearness allowance.

(ii) The dearness allowance shall be calculated on

the fi rst April of every year on the basis of the average of

the indices for the preceeding twelve months, that is from

January to December.

(iii) The fi rst calculation of the dearness allowance

shall thus be eff ective from the date of publication of this

Notifi cation in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, based on

the average of Chennai City Consumer Price Index Number

of the previous year.

(2) where the nature of work is the same, no distinction

in the payment of wages shall be made between men and

women employees.

(3) To arrive at daily wages, the monthly wages shall

be divided by 26.

(4) Wherever the existing wages are higher than the

minimum wages fi xed herein, the same shall be continued

to be paid.

(Central Act XIV of 1947);

NOW, THEREFORE, in exercise of the powers conferred

by sub-clause (vi) of clause (n) of Section 2 of the said

Act, the Governor of Tamil Nadu hereby declares the
