Amendment to Sub Rule 2 of Rule 5 of the Madras High Court Designation of Senior Advocates Rules, 2020,

Framed by the High Court

In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 34 (1) read with Section 16 (2) of the Advocates Act, 1961, the High

Court of Judicature at Madras, hereby makes the following amendment to Sub Rule 2 of Rule 5 of the Madras High

Court Designation of Senior Advocates Rules, 2020, as published in Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, Part III-Section 2,

Issue No. 29, dated 15-07-2020 and subsequent Amendment made to Rule 10 of the Madras High Court Designation of

Senior Advates Rules, 2020 published in Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, Part III - Section 2, Issue No. 3, dated 20-01-2021.

For Sub Rule 2 of Rule 5 of the Madras High Court Designation of Senior Advocates Rules, 2020, the following

Rule shall be substituted namely:-

“5. Modes of Proposal & Method of Submission:-

5(1) ....

(a) .............

(b) .............

(c) .............

5(2) (a) No Judge shall propose names of more than two Advocates for designation in one calendar year.

(b) No Senior Advocate having a standing of 15 years as Senior Advocate shall propose under clause (b)

of sub-rule (1) / endorse under clause (c) of sub-rule (1) / propose and endorse under clauses (b) and (c)

of sub-rule (1) more than two Advocates in all for designation in one calendar year.

Explanation — For the purposes of this sub rule, proposal shall be construed as endorsement and endorsement

shall be construed as proposal.”
