MUNICIPAL ADMINISTRATION AND WATER SUPPLY DEPARTMENT

AMENDMENT TO THE TAMIL NADU TOWN PANCHAYATS (FIXATION OF STRENGTH OF

COUNCILLORS) RULES, 1996.

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3-T of the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities

Act, 1920 (Tamil Nadu Act V of 1920), the Governor of Tamil Nadu hereby makes the following amendment to

the Tamil Nadu Town Panchayats (Fixation of Strength of Councillors) Rules, 1996:-

Amendment

In the said Rules, to rule 2, the following proviso shall be added, namely:-

“Provided that, the Inspector may, with the prior approval of the Government, for reasons to be recorded

in writing, increase the number of councillors to such scale, not exceeding two in a Town Panchayat.”.
