AGRICULTURE - FARMERS WELFARE DEPARTMENT

IMPLEMENTATION OF PRICE SUPPORT SCHEME (PSS) - PROCUREMENT OF GREENGRAM DURING

[G.O.(2D).No.138, Agriculture – Farmers Welfare (AP4), 28th August 2026,

No. II(1)/AGFW/16(b)/2026.

Crop

calendar

and

Harvesting

period

of

Greengram in the State of Tamil Nadu

A remunerative and stable price for Greengram is essential

to sustain farmers’ income and promote increased

agricultural production and productivity. However, market

prices of agricultural commodities are often subject to

fluctuations and volatility, resulting in financial losses to

farmers and discouraging them from adopting improved

technologies and investing in quality inputs.

The Government of India’s price policy aims to

ensure remunerative prices for farmers’ produce, thereby

encouraging higher investment and production while

safeguarding the interests of consumers through the

availability of agricultural commodities at reasonable

prices with minimum intermediation costs. The policy

also seeks to maintain a balanced and integrated price

structure in line with the overall requirements of the

economy.
