The Government of Goa is pleased to
formulate a scheme called “Scheme for
promotion of Beekeeping Industry in the State
of Goa”, to be implemented by the Goa Khadi
and Village Industries Board (GKVIB), Panaji.
1. Introduction:
1.1 The Goa Khadi and Village Industries
Board (GKVIB) has been implementing
various schemes of the Khadi and
Village Industries Commission (KVIC),
Mumbai. Since its inception the GKVIB
has financed more than 7000 units
under Village Industries Sector in Goa.
1.2 It has been observed that Goa has one
of the highest percentage forest cover
in the country and therefore harbours
immense
potential
to
develop
beekeeping activity as a commercial
business. The said industry can
provide supplementary income to the
people
and
also
increase
the
agriculture production in the vicinity
by around 30%. However, inspite of
favourable environment, beekeeping
as a viable economic activity has not
picked up in the State. At present very
few beekeepers are operating in the
State and the activity is being
undertaken more as a hobby than as
commercial activity.
2. Short title, commencement and duration:
2.1 The scheme shall be called as

2.2 The scheme shall come into force from
the date of its publication in the Official

entepreneurship under beekeeping
industry in the State. The beekeepers
could thereafter be organized into a

packaging
unit,
skill
development, technical knowhow,
quality control and certification,
processing of bye products such as
bee wax etc. could be provided under
cluster development schemes.
4. Eligibility:
4.1 Any person above 18 years of age who
is a permanent resident of Goa and
has undergone training in beekeeping
industry from authorized institution
shall be eligible for the scheme.
