No. RGR(RRR)662/2021/40.- Whereas a report of drought like situation prevailing in Golaghat District received from DDMA reveals that around 35,328 farm families are affected covering around 23,109.29 Ha. of crop area and another 21,506.90 Ha. could not be sown till date due to scant rainfall:

And whereas week by week rainfall data receieved from Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati shows large deficiency of rainfall in the month of May, June and July, 2021;

And whereas Meteorological drought means rainfall deficit exceeding 20% with reference to normal rainfall in a District and agricultural drought means crop damaged due to dry spells and uneven precipitation despite overall normal rains;

And whereas under such circumstances, it is necessary that steps are taken to prevent any large scale unemployment, food scarcity and general fall in income of the people and special measures as permissible are taken to mitigate the drought situation;

Therefore, after considering all the relevant facts, the State Government hereby declares that drought like situation is prevailing in Golaghat and Sarupathar Revenue Circle in Golaghat District.

The Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat will undertake appropriate relief measures for affected people and area as admissible under SDRF norms.

Further, Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat will escalate the efforts for making the non-functional irrigation schemes to minimize the crop damages in the affected areas.

This shall come into force with immediate effect.
