In exercise of the powers conferred by section 37 of the Central Excise Act, 1944 (1 of 1944)the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Central Excise Rules, 1944, namely

1. (1) These rules maybe called the Central Excise (Fourth Amendment) Rule, 2001

(2) They shall come into force on and from the 14th day of March, 2001

2 In rule 49 of the Central Excise Rules, 1944 (hereinafter referred to as the said rules), in sub-rule (1), in clause (a), for sub-clause (iii), the following sub-clause shall be substituted, namely:—

"(iii) during the second fortnight of March, by the 31 st day of the said March "

3 In rule 173Gofthe said rules, in sub-rule (1), in clause (a), for sub-clause (iii), the following sub-clause shall be substituted, namely:—

"(ni) during the second fortnight of March, by the 31st day of the said March."
