सं. 3/6/2005 - पब्लिक . केन्द्रीय विद्युत मंत्री श्री पी. एम. सईद का दिनांक 18 दिसम्बर , 2005 को सिओल, दक्षिण कोरियामें निधन हो गया ।
2. श्री पी. एम. सईद का जन्म 10 मई, 1941 को लक्षद्वीप के अन्दरोथ द्वीप स्थित कोया थांगल में श्रीमती एवं श्री ए. बी. अट्टाके घर में हुआ था स्वर्गीय श्री पी. एम. सईद ने गवर्नमेंट आर्ट्स कॉलेज , मंगलूर ( कर्नाटक ) तथा सिद्धार्थ कॉलेज ऑफ लॉ, बॉम्बे से शिक्षा प्राप्त की । आपने अपना कैरियर एक वकील, राजनीतिक नेता एवं सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता के रूप में शुरू किया । आप 1967 में चौथी लोक सभा के लिए चुने गए और आपको सदन का सबसे कम आयु का सदस्य होनेका गौरव प्राप्त हुआ । आप अत्यन्त लोकप्रिय थे और आपनेलोक सभा में 10 बार लक्षद्वीप द्वीपसमूह का प्रतिनिधित्व किया । लोक सभा में अपने शानदार कैरियर के दौरान आप अनेक संसदीय समितियों के सदस्य रहे । इनमें से उल्लेखनीय समितियाँ थीं- याचिका समिति, सरकारी आश्वासन समिति, लाभ वाले पदों संबंधी संयुक्त समिति, सामान्य प्रयोजन समिति आदि । आप इस्पात, कोयला एवं खान मंत्रालय ( 1979-80 ) , गृह मंत्रालय ( 1993-95 ) तथा सूचना एवं प्रसारण मंत्रालय ( 1995-96 ) में राज्य मंत्री रहे हैं । आप 1998-99 में और दूसरी बार भी 1999-2004 में लोक सभा के उपाध्यक्ष निर्वाचित हुए । आप 2004 में राज्य सभा के लिए चुने गए । श्री सईद को अगस्त, 2004में केन्द्रीय विद्युत मंत्री नियुक्त किया गया ।
3. स्वर्गीय श्री पी. एम. सईद ने अनेक देशों की यात्राएं कीं तथा आप संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ आम सभा के 24वें तथा 36वें अधिवेशन में भाग लेने वाले भारतीय शिष्टमंडल के सदस्य थे । आपने कई अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मंचों पर देश का प्रतिनिधित्व किया । श्री सईद को 8 भाषाओं- अंग्रेजी, हिन्दी, उर्दू, मलयालम, कन्नड, तमिल, तेलगू तथा बियरी बासा का ज्ञान था। आपको सामाजिक कार्य, श्रम कल्याण , गरीबों, पिछड़े तथा अल्पसंख्यक समुदायों के लोगों के उत्थान के कार्यों में विशेष रुचि थी ।
4. स्वर्गीय श्री पी. एम. सईद, भारतीय मूल्यों के जीते जागते प्रतीक थे तथा आप गरीबों तथा पिछड़ों के प्रति पूरी तरह से समर्पित थे । श्री सईद के निधन से देश को जो क्षति हुई है उसकी भरपाई करना मुश्किलहै । आप सदा ही देश के लिए प्रेरणा का स्रोत बने रहेंगे ।

OBITUARY
No. 3/6/2005 -Public . Shri P. M. Sayeed , Union Minister of Power passed away at Seoul , South Korea on 18thDecember, 2005 .
2. Born on 10th May , 1941 , to Smt. and Shri A. B. Atta in Koya Thangal at Androth Island, Lakshadweep . Late Shri P. M. Sayeed was educated at Government Arts College, Mangalore ( Karnataka ) and Siddhartha College of Law , Bombay. He started his career as a lawyer , political leader and social worker . He was elected to the 4th Lok Sabha in 1967 and had the distinction of being the youngest member of the House . He was extremely popular and represented the Lakshadweep Island in Lok Sabha 10 times . During his illustrious career in the Lok Sabha , he was a member of a number of Parliamentary Committees , notable amongst them being the Committee on Petitions , Committee on Government Assurances , Joint Committee on Offices of Profit, General Purpose Committee , etc. He was Union Minister of State for Steel , Coal and Mines ( 1979-80) , Union Minister of State for Home Affairs ( 1993-95) and Information and Broadcasting ( 1995-96) . He was elected Deputy Speaker ofLok Sabha in 1998-99 and again for the second term on 1999-2004. He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 2004. Shri Sayeed was appointed as Union Minister of Power in August, 2004 .
3. Late Shri P. M. Sayeed was a widely travelled person and was a member of Indian delegation to the 24th and 36th Sessions of U. N. General Assembly. He also represented the country at several fora internationally. Shri Sayeed knew 8 languages English , Hindi , Urdu , Malayalam , Kannad, Tamil , Telugu and Beary Basa . He had special interest in social work , labour welfare, upliftment of the poor , the downtrodden and the people belonging to minorities .
4. Late Shri P. M. Sayeed epitomized core Indian values and was totally committed to poor and downtrodden . The death of Shri Sayeed has left a void which would be difficult to fill in the Indian Polity. He would remain an inspiring memory to the nation .
