[PART II--SEC. 2]

STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS

The Indian Rifles Act , 1920 was enacted with a view to provide for better discipline ofpolice officers enrolled in Military Police or Rifle Battalions .

2. The Act was relevant when there were many princely States in pre - partition India . At present the police forces are governed either by the respective State or Union Territory Police Act or the Indian Police Act , 1861 or by the Acts governing the Central Police Forces .

3.Now, therefore , the Indian Rifles Act , 1920 has become obsolete . So there is no need to keep the Act on the statute book and hence the said Act is proposed to be repealed.
