सं. 3 -प्रेज/2008- राष्ट्रपति निम्न कार्मिक को अत्यंत असाधारण वीरता के लिए "अशोक चक्र " प्रदान करने का अनुमोदन करती हैं :-

02 अक्तूबर, 2007 को 0820 बजे मेजर दिनेश रघु रमण ने जम्मू- कश्मीर के बारामूला जिले के एक गांव में अपनी कम्पनी को तैनात किया जहाँ आतंकवादियों के साथ मुठभेड़ चल रही है । 0855 बजे संदिग्ध घरों के निकट जाते हुए मेजर रमण ने एक साथी अफसर की चीखें सुनीं जो बुरी तरह से जख्मी हो चुका था । उच्च कोटि के सखाभाव और बंधुत्व भावना का परिचय देते हुए शत्रु की भारी गोलीबारी के बीच वे उसकी ओर रेंगते हुए गए । उन्होंने उसे और दो अन्य घायल सैनिकों को सुरक्षित निकाल लिया । उसके बाद उन्होंने उन दो आतंकवादियों का आमने-सामने से मुकाबला किया जिनके कारण सैनिक बड़ी मात्रा में हताहत हुए थे और बिल्कुल पास की भीषण लड़ाई में दोनों को मार गिराया । अन्य आतंकवादियों ने अब दूसरे घर से मेजर रमण पर गोलियां चलाईं । इस गोलीबारी में मेजर रमण गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए । अडिग रहते हुए वे अपने सैनिकों का नेतृत्व और प्रेरित करते हुए आतंकवादियों के विरुद्ध तब तक डटे रहे जब तक वे अचेत होकर गिर नहीं गए । बाद में अपने जख्मों के कारण वे वीरगति को प्राप्त हो गए ।
मेजर रमण ने उच्चकोटि के सखाभाव और नेतृत्व के अलावा अत्यंत असाधारण वीरता का परिचय दिया और राष्ट्र के लिए सर्वोच्च बलिदान दिया ।

IC-59263 MAJOR DINESH RAGHU RAMAN JAT REGIMENT /34 RASHTRIYA RIFLES ( POSTHUMOUS) (Effective date ofthe award 2nd October , 2007)
On02 October , 2007 at 0820 hours , Major Dinesh Raghu Raman deployed his company in a village in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir where an encounter with terrorists had commenced . At 0855 hours , while closing in on 253 GI/2008 (1) [PART I-SEC. ] THE GAZETTE OF INDIA : EXTRAORDINARY

suspected houses , Major Raman heard shouts of a fellow officer who had been seriously injured . Displaying camaraderie and esprit -de- corps of the highest order he crawled towards him under heavy hostile fire . He extricated him and two other injured soldiers to safety . He then took on two terrorists who had caused heavy casualties to the troops and in a fierce close quarter battle shot both of them dead . The other terrorists now fired on Major Raman from another house . In the ensuing firefight , Major Raman was seriously injured. Undeterred, he continued leading and motivating his troops and pinned down the terrorists till he fell unconscious . He later succumbed to his injuries .
Major Raman displayed most conspicuous bravery besides camaraderie and leadership of the highest order and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
