(a) taking the tubers of Gloriosa superba and roots of Plumbago zeylanica, cleaning and drying in the open and powdering them to a seive size of 20—30, in the ratio of 12—18% and 14—25% w/w respectively, (iv) reacting the resultant phthalimido alkanoate of the formula (Ille) under Japp-Klingemann conditions with a diazonium salt of p-anisidine to give the corresponding indole derivative of the formula (Illf), where R represents methyl or ethyl,

(b) taking the seeds of Peganum harmala and Lepidium sativum, cleaning and drying in the open and powdering them to a seive size of 20—30, in the ratio of 8—15% and 14—20% w/w respectively,

(c) taking roots of Gossypium herbaceum, cleaning and drying in the open and powdering to a seive size of 20—30, in the ratio of 15—25% w/w, (v) hydrolysing the resulting crude indole derivative of the formula (Illf) using conventional methods to give a compound of formula (le),

(d) taking the leaves of Adhatoda vasica, cleaning and drying in the open and powdering it to a seive si/.e of 20—30, in the ratio of 15—25% w/w,

(e) mixing a, b, c, d powdered ingredients and subjecting the said mixture and extraction with a solvent as herein described, filtering the said extract and concentrating it to contain 40—50% w/w of total solids,

(f) The balance being the excipient or preservations as herein described added to the said concentration to obtain in final product.

(vi) decarboxylating the compound of formula (le) by conventional methods to give 5-methoxytryptamine of the formula (Illg),
