सं. 180 - प्रेज/2012-- राष्ट्रपति निम्नलिखित व्यक्तियों को साहसपूर्ण कार्यों के लिए ' शौर्य चक्र ' पुरस्कार प्रदान करने का अनुमोदन करते हैं : --
1. आईसी-56887 एक्स लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल ध्रुवज्योति चंदा, 13 वीं बटालियन द सिख रेजिमेंट
( पुरस्कार देने की प्रभावी तारीख : 19 फरवरी 2011 )
19फरवरी 2011 को 03.00 बजे लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल ध्रुवज्योति चंदा के नेतृत्व वाली एक गश्त पार्टी ने असम के गोवालपाड़ा जिले में आतंकवादियों के एक समूह की गतिविधि के बारे में पता लगाया । अधिकारी ने हलचल का पता लगाया और साथ ही साथ इस आतंकवादी हलचल पर गश्त को पुनः समायोजित किया तथा सुव्यवस्थित घात लगाने की जमीन तैयार की । उत्कृष्ट फील्ड क्राफ्ट तथा कड़े फायर अनुशासन का प्रदर्शन करते हुए उन्होंने आतंकवादियों को मारक क्षेत्र में घुसने को मजबूर किया और उनको चुनौती दी । जब आतंकवादियों ने उनकी टीम के सदस्य को निशाना बनाकर फायर किया तो उन्होंने अपनी व्यक्तिगत सुरक्षा की परवाह न करते हुए प्रभावपूर्ण गोलीबारी की और दो आतंकवादियों को घटनास्थल पर ही मार गिराया और अपने साथियों की जान बचाई । गंभीर खतरे की स्थिति में उनके अनुकरणीय साहस और नेतृत्व की बदौलत तीन खूंखार आतंकवादियों को मार गिराया गया जबकि उनके अपने सैनिको को कोई नुकसान नहीं हुआ।
लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल ध्रुवज्योति चंदा ने आतंकवादियों के साथ संग्राम में उत्कृष्ट नेतृत्व, कुशाग्रता तथा अविश्वसनीय साहस का प्रदर्शन किया ।
2. आईसी-72377ए लेफ्टिनेंट सत्यजीत अहलावत , सेना आयुद्ध कोर/9 वीं बटालियन द सिख लाइट इन्फैंट्री
(पुरस्कार देने की प्रभावी तारीख: 18 जून, 2011 )
मेघालय के पूर्वी गारो पहाड़ियों के सामान्य क्षेत्र में 18 जून, 2011 को आतंकवादियों के एक समूह की हलचल के संबंध में विनिर्दिष्ट सूचना प्राप्त हुई थी । इस सूचना के आधार पर लेफ्टिनेंट सत्यजीत अहलावत के नेतृत्व वाली एक टीम ने 18 जून, 2011 को 01.15 बजे सामान्य क्षेत्र गरीसिमरन में एक खोजी अभियान शुरू किया । उस आतंकवादी समूह ने टीम पर अंधाधुंध फायर शुरू कर दिया । टीम के कमांडर ने समस्त क्षेत्र की घेराबंदी की और आतंकवादियों को समर्पण करने की चेतावनी दी । आतंकवादियों [भाग I-खण्ड 1 1170

ने आत्मसमर्पण करने की बजाय वहां से भागने के लिए उन पर लगातार फायरिंग जारी रखी । लेफ्टिनेंट सत्यजीत अहलावत ने स्थिति का बड़ी तेजी से आकलन किया और उनको बगल से भागने से रोकने के लिए उनको मारने का निर्णय लिया । इस अधिकारी ने धैर्य और कुशाग्रता का परिचय देते हुए दो आतंकवादियों को निशाना बनाया और रेंगते हुए उन पर फायर शुरू कर दिया जिसके परिणामस्वरूप 04.00 बजे दो आतंकवादियों का सफाया हो गया । मारे गए आतंकवादियों की पहचान उत्तर पूर्वी क्षेत्र में काम कर रहे एक आतंकवादी समूह के महासचिव के रूप में तथा उसके गनमैन के रूप में की गई जो मेघालय पुलिस तथा अर्धसैनिक बलों के खिलाफ घात लगाकर हमला करने में शामिल थे ।
लेफ्टिनेंट सत्यजीत अहलावत ने आतंकवादियों के खिलाफ संग्राम में अविश्वसनीय साहस और नेतृत्व का प्रदर्शन किया ।
3. रेजीमेंट आईसी-59849 एम मेजर टी.एन. उन्नीकृष्णन , 15वीं बटालियन द डोगरा
( पुरस्कार देने की प्रभावी तारीख: 21 जून 2011 )
मेजर टी.एन. उन्नीकृष्णन ने 21 जून 2011 को असम के कोकराझार जिले के सामान्य क्षेत्र में चार आतंकवादियों की उपस्थिति के बारे में विश्वसनीय सूचना प्राप्त होने पर पुलिस के साथ मिलकर एक संयुक्त ऑपरेशन शुरू किया । लगभग 16.45 बजे उनकी टीम ने चार सशस्त्र व्यक्तियों की संदिग्ध गतिविधि को देखा । संदिग्ध आतंकवादियों को चुनौती देने पर उन्होंने घात पार्टी पर गोली चलाना शुरू कर दिया । इस अधिकारी ने अपने साथियों के साथ मिलकर जवाबी हमला बोला और विवेकशीलता और साहस का प्रदर्शन करते हुए दो आतंकवादियों को घटनास्थल पर ही मार गिराया । तथापि, दो अन्य आतंकवादी वहां से भाग निकलने में सफल हुए । इस अधिकारी ने अपनी व्यक्तिगत सुरक्षा को दरकिनार करते हुए घने जंगल में बच कर भागे हुए आतंकवादियों को खोजने का निर्णय लिया । क्षेत्र की घेराबंदी की गई और खोज करते हुए घनी झाड़ी में कुछ संदिग्ध गतिविधि का पता चला । उनकी घेराबंदी होने पर जब आतंकवादियों ने फायर शुरू कर दिया तो अधिकारी ने युद्धकौशल का परिचय देते हुए अपने साथियों के साथ जवाबी हमला किया तथा एक और आतंकवादी को मारा गया ।
मेजर टी.एन. उन्नीकृष्णन ने आतंकवादियों से लड़ते हुए युद्धस्थिति में निर्भीकता , धीरता तथा अनुकरणीय साहस का प्रदर्शन किया ।
4. आईसी-67215 एल मेजर सौरभ सुयाल, सेना मेडल बार , कवचित कोर/22वीं बटालियन द राष्ट्रीय राइफल

मेजर सौरभ सुयाल को 13 सितम्बर 2011 को जम्मू एवं कश्मीर के सोपोर जिले के सामान्य क्षेत्र में आतंकवादियों की उपस्थिति के बारे में सूचना प्राप्त हुई । अधिकारी ने.

अपनी टीम के साथ मिलकर पेशेवर तरीके से शीघ्रतापूर्वक प्रभावशाली घेराबंदी की । एक आतंकवादी ने यह अहसास होने पर कि उसके खिलाफ जाल बिछाया जा रहा है , घेराबंदी तोड़ने का प्रयास किया जब कि लक्षित क्षेत्र से सिविलियनों को निकाला जा रहा था । अधिकारी ने स्थिति को नियंत्रण में लिया और आतंकवादी को भागने से रोकने के लिए उस पर प्रभावकारी फायरिंग की । अधिकारी ने असाधारण साहस का प्रदर्शन करते . हुए उस घर में प्रवेश किया जहां आतंकवादी छुपा था और खिड़की से एक स्टन ग्रेनेड दागा । आतंकवादी हथगोला फेंकते हुए बाहर निकला और अंधाधुंध गोलीबारी शुरू कर दी । अधिकारी ने अपनी व्यक्तिगत सुरक्षा की परवाह न करते हुए आतंकवादी पर हमला किया और उसको मार गिराया ।
मेजर सौरभ सुयाल ने आतंकवादियों से मुठभेड़ करते हुए अदम्य साहस , उत्कृष्ट बहादुरी तथा अनुकरणीय असाधारण नेतृत्व का प्रदर्शन किया ।
5. स्क्वाड्रन लीडर अजीत भास्कर वसाने (27697) उड़ान (पायलट)

10 अक्तूबर 2011 को स्क्वाड्रन लीडर अजीत भास्कर वसाने को दो वायुयानों वाले एक सुपरसोनिक अभ्यास अंतर्रोधन मिशन का नेतृत्व करने के लिए प्राधिकृत किया गया था । वायुसेना स्टेशन से 85 कि.मी. की दूरी और 9 कि.मी. की ऊंचाई पर वायुयान का हैड- अप-डिस्पले ( एच यू डी) खराबी का संकेत देने लगा और थोड़ी देर के बाद यह बंद हो गया । इसके तुरंत बाद एचयूडी के दाहिने भाग से आग निकलने लगी । स्थिति तेजी से बिगड़ने लगी और कॉकपिट में हानिकारक धुंआ भरने लगा । इसके साथ ही शीशे - प्लास्टिक की अन्य सामग्री और एच यू डी के नजदीक के केबल ने तेजी से आग पकड़ ली और विंडशील्ड पर कालिख की मोटी पर्त जमा हो गई , जिससे पायलट को सामने दिखना काफी कम हो गया । स्क्वाड्रन लीडर वसाने ने अपने हाथों से आग बुझाने की कोशिश की, लेकिन उन्हें यह प्रयास छोड़ना पड़ा क्योंकि पिघले हुए प्लास्टिक से इनके दस्ताने और उंगलियां जलने लगी । तेजी से भड़क रही आग से अपनी जान को बहुत बड़ा खतरा होने पर भी इन्होंने वायुयान की आपातकालीन पुनः प्राप्ति शुरू की । ऐसा करने में इन्होंने असाधारण सूझबूझ तथा उच्चतम कोटि के साहस का परिचय देते हुए हवाई पट्टी के निकट स्थित विभिन्न पेट्रो-केमिकल स्थापनाओं के ऊपर से उड़ान भरने के बजाय इनसे दूर जाने का रास्ता चुना, यद्यपि इस लंबी उड़ान से उनकी जिंदगी खतरे में पड़ गई थी । कॉकपिट की आग और सामने कम होती हुई दृश्यता की परवाह न करते हुए इन्होंने कुशलतापूर्वक खुद को एक आपातकालीन अवतरण के लिए तैयार किया और वायुयान को कोई और क्षति पहुंचाए बगैर निर्बाध रूप से इस काम को अंजाम दिया । अवतरण के बाद इन्होंने कॉकपिट की आग को तेजी से बुझाने में क्रैश कर्मीदल को दिशानिर्देश देकर उनकी मदद भी की ।
स्क्वाड्रन लीडर अजीत भास्कर वसाने ने ऐसी अभूतपूर्व गंभीर आपात स्थिति से निपटने में असाधारण साहस, उच्च कोटि के व्यावसायिक गुण और विवेकशीलता का परिचय दिया । उनके वीरतापूर्ण कार्य से न केवल वायुयान की रक्षा हुई बल्कि उस क्षेत्र के 2-371 G1/2012 1172

रणनीतिक तौर पर महत्वपूर्ण पेट्रो- केमिकल स्थापनाओं को संभावित गंभीर नुकसान पहुंचने से भी बचाया जा सका ।
6. राइफल एसएस -40921 एच मेजर प्रदीप मिश्रा, जाट रेजिमेंट/5 वीं बटालियन द राष्ट्रीय
( पुरस्कार देने की प्रभावी तारीखः 12 अक्तूबर 2011 )
12 अक्तूबर , 2011 को जम्मू एवं कश्मीर के गांदरबल जिले के एक जंगल में तीन खूंखार आतंकवादियों की उपस्थिति की सूचना मिलने पर मेजर प्रदीप मिश्रा सात अन्य रैंकों की अपनी छोटी सी टीम के साथ आगे बढ़े और आतंकवादियों के नजदीक पहुंचे । जैसे ही वह आतंकवादियों के नजदीक पहुंचे तो उन पर भारी गोलीबारी शुरू हो गई । अधिकारी ने जवाबी हमला किया और उनका मुंहतोड़ जवाब दिया । भारी गोलीबारी के दौरान उनकी तरफ भागकर आ रहे एक आतंकवादी को पकड़ लिया गया था। अन्य दो आतंकवादी ने भागने की और ओझिल होने की कोशिश की । भागकर निकले आतंकवादियों का इस टीम द्वारा पीछा किया गया और रास्ते में ही एक आतंकवादी को मार गिराया । अन्य आतंकवादी ने एक प्राकृतिक जगह में छिपने की कोशिश की । अधिकारी उस जगह तक रेंगते हुए गए जहां आतंकवादी छिपा हुआ था और छुपे हुए खूंखार आतंकवादी को नजदीक से मार गिराया ।
मेजर प्रदीप मिश्रा ने आतंकवादियों से लड़ते हुए कुशाग्रता, चतुराई तथा असाधारण साहस का प्रदर्शन किया ।
7. आईसी-60369 पी मेजर हिमांशु पंवार, 26 मराठा लाइट इन्फैंट्री बटालियन
(पुरस्कार देने की प्रभावी तारीखः 16 नवंबर 2011 )
मेजर हिमांशु पंवार के नेतृत्व में अरूणाचल प्रदेश के लोहित जिले के एक गांव में 16 नवंबर 2011 की रात को एक घेराबंदी और खोज- अभियान शुरू किया गया था । अधिकारी ने संदिग्ध घर की प्रभावशाली घेराबंदी करने के बाद कुशाग्रता से घर के सभी मासूम सदस्यों को बाहर निकाला । वहां के निवासियों से उस घर में आतंकवादियों की उपस्थिति की पुष्टि होने पर अधिकारी ने उमको आत्मसमर्पण करने का आदेश दिया । आत्मसमर्पण करने के बजाय आतंकवादियों ने भागने की कोशिश करते हुए उन पर अप्रत्याशित गोलीबारी शुरू कर दी । अधिकारी ने भारी गोलीबारी में निडरतापूर्वक और अपनी खुद की सुरक्षा की परवाह न करते हुए आतंकवादियों पर भारी तथा सटीक गोलीबारी की जिसके परिणामस्वरूप घटनास्थल पर ही दो आतंकवादी मारे गए।
मेजर हिमांशु पंवार ने आतंकवादियों से लड़ते हुए अदम्य साहस, उत्कृष्ट नेतृत्व तथा कर्तव्य के प्रति समर्पण का प्रदर्शन किया ।

24.11.2011 को झारग्राम से लगभग 13 कि.मी. दूर बुरीसोल गांव के उत्तर- पूर्वी क्षेत्र के जंगल में 5-7 सशस्त्र माओवादियों की गतिविधि के बारे में पश्चिम मिदनापुर के पुलिस अधीक्षक से प्राप्त सूचना के अनुसरण में एक संयुक्त अभियान की योजना बनाई गई थी । दो टीमों को विभिन्न स्थानों पर छोड़ा गया और जो लक्षित क्षेत्र की तरफ बढ़े तथा लगभग 1600 बजे वे अपने आरवी पर पहुंचे । दो कोबरा टीमों के कार्मिकों से बनायी गई एक छोटी सी जांच टीम जैसे ही लक्षित क्षेत्र की तरफ बढ़ी तो उन पर माओवादियों द्वारा भारी गोलीबारी शुरू कर दी गई जिससे इन कार्मिकों की जिंदगी संकट में पड़ गई ।
कोबरा के दो बहादुर कमांडरों , श्री नगेन्द्र सिंह और श्री विनोज पी. जोसफ ने अपनी खुद की सुरक्षा की परवाह न करते हुए , जिस तरफ से गोलीबारी हो रही थी उसी तरफ आगे बढ़ने का निर्णय लिया। आगे बढ़ते हुए शुरूआत में ही श्री नगेन्द्र सिंह को एक ग्रेनेड स्पीलिंटर लगा और वे घायल हो गए जबकि विनोज पी . जोसफ को भी कई गोलियां छूती हुई निकल गई । इसके बावजूद वे पारस्परिक रूप से आगे बढ़ने के दृढ़ निश्चय के साथ निर्देश देते रहे और शत्रुओं के 10-15 मीटर के दायरे में पहुंच गए । दोनों अधिकारियों और माओवादियों के बीच भयंकर गोलीबारी हुई । दो कमांडरों द्वारा पांच कार्मिकों की टीम से अचानक और अप्रत्याशित जवाबी हमले से न केवल अन्य सदस्यों को चोटग्रस्त तथा हताहत होने से बचाया गया बल्कि माओवादियों के छक्के छुड़ा दिये । गोलीबारी बंद होने के बाद समूचे क्षेत्र की गहन तलाशी की गई जिसमें एक मृत शरीर पाया गया जिसके हाथों में एक एके -47 थी । मृतक की पहचान बाद में माओवादी कोटेश्वर राव उर्फ किशनजी के रूप में हुई ।
श्री नगेन्द्र सिंह और श्री विनोज पी. जोसफ, 207 कोबरा के सहायक कमांडेंटों ने माओवादियों के खिलाफ अभियान में असाधारण साहस , प्रेरणादायी नेतृत्व तथा मजबूत आत्मबल का परिचय दिया ।
10. विंग कमांडर वत्सल कुमार सिंह (24223) उड़ान (पायलट)

19 दिसंबर 2011 को विंग कमांडर वत्सल कुमार सिंह को छत्तीसगढ़ के घने जंगल और अत्यधिक नक्सल प्रभावित क्षेत्र में एक मिशन के दौरान नंबर 3 हेलीकॉप्टर के मुख्य चालक के तौर पर 120 कोबरा कमांडों को इच्छित स्थल पर उतारने की जिम्मेदारी [भाग 1-खण्ड 1

सौंपी गई थी । लैंडिंग स्थल पर लंबे पेड़ों से घिरे जंगल में एक छोटी सी खाली जगह उपलब्ध थी और यहां लैंडिंग - तल काफी ऊबड़- खाबड़ था , जिससे यह कार्य और भी दुष्कर हो गया । जब वे सत्रह व्यक्तियों को लेकर तीसरी उड़ान लगा रहे थे , तब बाईं ओर से वायुयान के निचले भाग में स्वचालित हथियारों से इनके हेलीकॉप्टर पर गोलीबारी की गई । गोली चलने की संभावित दिशा से तुरंत वापस मुड़ते हुए ये हेलीकॉप्टर को ऊंचाई पर ले गए । वायुयान के सभी पैरामीटरों का सामान्य होना सुनिश्चित कर लेने के बाद इन्होंने अपने संचालन स्थान पर वापस लौटने का फैसला किया । बाद में वायुयान में काफी तेज कंपन होने लगा और समूचे कार्गो उपकक्ष में जले हुए विस्फोटक की गंध भर गई । काफी तेज कंपन से यह सुनिश्चित करना अत्यंत चुनौतीपूर्ण हो गया कि हेलीकॉप्टर नियंत्रण से बाहर न जाए ।
विंग कमांडर वत्सल कुमार सिंह ने अपना धैर्य बनाए रखा और अपने श्रेष्ठ उड़ान कौशल के साथ हेलीकॉप्टर को नियंत्रित किया । इन्होंने इसकी गति कम की और कंपन को न्यूनतम स्तर पर पहुंचाया तथा इंजन के महत्वपूर्ण पैरामीटरों पर बारीकी से नजर रखी । चालीस मिनट के लंबे और कठिन समय के बाद बड़ी कुशलता से इन्होंने सत्रह व्यक्तियों और
अपने हेलीकॉप्टर को सुरक्षित उतारा । उड़ान के बाद के निरीक्षण में पता चला कि हेलीकॉप्टर के महत्वपूर्ण पुर्जों के आसपास से नौ गोलियां कई जगहों से घुसी और निकली हैं । विंग कमांडर वत्सल कुमार सिंह ने प्रतिकूल परिस्थितियों में अदम्य साहस , प्रेरणापद नेतृत्व कौशल और धैर्य का असाधारण परिचय दिया ।
11. फ्लाइट लेफ्टिनेंट गुणज्ञ रमेश खर्चे (29037) उड़ान (पायलट)

06 फरवरी , 2012 को फ्लाइट लेफ्टिनेंट गुणज्ञ रमेश खर्चे को एक एन-32 वायुयान पर कम ऊंचाई वाली एक मार्गनिर्देशन उड़ान के लिए मुख्य चालक के तौर पर तैनात किया गया था । वायुयान वापिस ले आने की प्रक्रिया को अंजाम देते हुए जब पहियों को नीचे किया गया तो दाहिना और सामने वाले पहिये तो ठीक तरह से नीचे आ गए , लेकिन बायां पहिया सामान्य तरीकों से नीचे नहीं किया जा सका । यहां तक कि बांये पहिये को नीचे करने के आपातकालीन तरीकों से भी कोई नतीजा नहीं निकला । इस वायुयान पर मुख्य चालक के रूप में अपने सीमित अनुभव के बावजूद इस गंभीर आपात स्थिति में फ्लाइट लेफ्टिनेंट खर्चे ने अपना आत्मनियंत्रण बनाए रखा और दाहिने पहिए तथा सामने वाले पहिए पर एक आपातकालीन अवतरण कराने का फैसला लिया । इन्होंने इस गंभीर स्थिति का पूरा अंदाजा लगाया और यह सुनिश्चित किया कि ऐसी आपातकालीन स्थिति से निपटने के लिए उपलब्ध सभी कर्मीदल संसाधनों को बेहतरीन व्यावसायिक तरीके से काम में लाया जा सके । इसके बाद फ्लाइट लेफ्टिनेंट खर्चे ने केवल दाहिने पहिए और सामने वाले पहिए के साथ एक सुरक्षित आपातकालीन अवतरण 1175 भाग 1-खण्ड 1 ]

किया । उन्होंने वायुयान के अवतरण को बहुत ही साहसी तरीके से नियंत्रित किया और इससे वायुयान को कम से कम नुकसान पहुंचा । वायुयान के रनवे से बाहर चले जाने के बाद इसमें सवार कार्मिकों को बाहर निकालने का काम इनकी निगरानी में बड़ी कुशलता से किया गया।
फ्लाइट लेफ्टिनेंट गुणज्ञ रमेश खर्चे ने ऐसी गंभीर आपातस्थिति से निपटने के दौरान असाधारण साहस और आला दर्जे की व्यावसायिकता का प्रदर्शन किया । इनकी कार्रवाई से न केवल वायुयान में सवार कार्मिकों की जान बची बल्कि वायुयान को भी कम से कम नुकसान के साथ बचा लिया गया।
12. आईसी-66537वाई मेजर विजयेन्द्र सिंह यादव ब्रिगेड ऑफ द गार्डस/21 वीं बटालियन द राष्ट्रीय राइफल
(पुरस्कार देने की प्रभावी तारीखः 28 मार्च , 2012)
प्राप्त गुप्त सूचना के आधार पर तथा अधिकारियों के व्यक्तिगत अनुग्रह द्वारा पुष्टि किए जाने पर उत्तरी कश्मीर में तीन महीनों से एक आतंकवादी समूह का खूंखार आतंकवादी का पता लगाने के लिए , मेजर विजयेंद्र सिंह यादव ने 28 मार्च 2012 को जम्मू व कश्मीर के कुपवाड़ा जिले में स्थित एक जंगल में छिपे हुए आतंकवादियों का भंडाफोड़ करने के लिए व्यक्तिगत रूप से आपॅरेशन की अगुवाई की । उनके छिपने के स्थान पर आगे बढ़ते हुए उन्होंने स्वचालित हथियारों से भारी गोलीबारी की । अपने व्यक्तिगत सुरक्षा का ध्यान न करके, अपनी स्थिति को फिर से संभाला तथा भीषण गोलीबारी में 10 मीटर तक रेंगते हुए आगे बढ़े एवं बहुत कम दूरी से आतंकवादी को तटस्थ कर दिया । अपने साथी के जीवन को खतरे में पड़ा देखकर , जो दूसरे आतंकवादी द्वारा की जा रही भीषण गोलीबारी में घिरा था , उन्होंने दृढ निश्चय से उसे घेर लिया तथा 5 मीटर की दूरी पर आतंकवादी को मार गिराया । अधिकारी ने अपनी कार्यकुशलता से अपने दल द्वारा तीसरे आतंकवादी को मारने को कारगर बनाया ।
मेजर विजयेन्द्र सिंह द्वारा प्रदर्शित उत्कृष्ट वीरता ने जंगल के किनारे स्थित घर में छिपे हुए दो आतंकवादियों का सफाया करने में उनकी इकाई को प्रेरणा प्रदान की ।
मेजर विजयेन्द्र सिंह यादव ने आतंकवादियों से लड़ते हुए अपनी दृढ प्रतिबद्धता, लक्ष्यभावना तथा अदम्य साहस एवं वीरता का परिचय दिया ।

तरफ आगे बढ़े। हवलदार चरणजीत सिंह ने देखा कि दो आतंकवादी संतरी की ड्यूटी पर है । व्यक्तिगत सुरक्षा की परवाह किए बगैर उन्होंने 5 मीटर की दूरी से रेंगते हुए आतंकवादी के पास पहुंचकर गोली दाग दी । घायल आतंकवादी ने स्वचालित आग्नेयास्त्र से उसके साथी को छलनी कर दिया । अपने साथी की जान को खतरे में जानकर , हवलदार चरणजीत सिंह कूदकर अपने मोर्चे से बाहर आए और घायल आतंकवादी पर गोलियों की बरसात कर दी । आमने- सामने की गोलीबारी में हवलदार चरणजीत सिंह ने अतुलनीय तथा अत्यंत निर्भीकता से तत्क्षण ही आतंकी को मार गिराया । तत्काल ही दूसरे आतंकवादी की तरफ से की जा रही भीषण गोलीबारी में घिरने के बाद हवलदार चरणजीत सिंह ने शांति तथा तत्क्षण बुद्धि कायम रखते हुए अपनी बंदूक से घटनास्थल पर ही दूसरे आतंकवादी को मार गिराया । आतंकी संतरी को निष्क्रिय करने के परिणामस्वरूप धावे के दौरान पाँच खूंखार विदेशी आतंकवादियों को मार गिराया गया ।
हवलदार चरणजीत सिंह ने आतंकवादियों के साथ लड़ाई में असाधारण नेतृत्व , अदम्य साहस का परिचय दिया ।
14. आईसी -58687 ए मेजर अमित मोहिंद्रा , 666 सेना विमानन स्क्वाड्रन (टोही तथा निरीक्षण)

23 मई, 2012 को 11.00 बजे मेजर अमित मोहिंद्रा ने कैप्टन के रूप में एक वायु अनुरक्षण मिशन में जम्मू व कश्मीर के लेह जिले में सियाचिन ग्लेशियर की जमी हुई सीमान्त सरहद पर 18,000 फीट की ऊंचाई पर स्थित वायु अनुरक्षित चौकी पर तैनात सैन्य दल की सहायता के लिए उड़ान भरी । उन्होंने चीता हेलीकॉप्टर उड़ाने के दौरान ऐसे प्रतिकूल वातावरण में अत्यधिक बार चक्कर लगाते हुए भी शरीर के शिथिल पड़ जाने के बावजूद भी संपूर्ण नियंत्रण करते हुए सफलतापूर्वक उस चौकी पर अत्यावश्यक संभारिकी आपूर्तियां पहुंचाई ।
इस अधिकारी को दृढ संकल्प के साथ राष्ट्रीय सरहद की सुरक्षा में तैनात सैन्य दलों की सहायता करने एवं सफलता पूर्वक मिशन को पूरा करने के बाद वापसी के समय हेलिकॉप्टर के दुर्घटनाग्रस्त होने के कारण गम्भीर चोटें आईं । ऐसा करते हुए उन्होंने अत्यधिक बहादुरी , हिम्मत , साहस , सर्वश्रेष्ठ वीरता , सर्वोच्च किस्म की व्यावसायिकता और कुशलतम उड़ान क्षमताओं का प्रदर्शन किया , जिसमें उन्होंने सर्वाधिक कठिन तथा असुविधाजनक क्षेत्र में व्यक्तिगत सुरक्षा की तनिक भी परवाह नहीं की, इस तरह उन्होंने व्यक्ति तथा मशीन और मौसम की विषमताओं की सभी सीमाओं को पार कर दिया ।
मेजर अमित मोहिंद्रा ने अत्यंत कठिन तथा विकट क्षेत्र में अपनी व्यक्तिगत सुरक्षा की परवाह किए बगैर , अत्यधिक बहादुरी, सर्वोच्च किस्म की व्यावसायिकता तथा कुशल उड़ान दक्षता का परिचय दिया ।

1. IC - 56887X LIEUTENANT COLONEL DHRUVJYOTI CHANDA , 13TH BATTALION THE SIKH REGIMENT
(Effective date of the award : 19 February 2011 )
On 19 February 2011 at 0300 hours movement of a group of terrorists was detected by a patrol led by Lieutenant Colonel Dhruvjyoti Chanda at Goalpara district of Assam. The officer tracked the movement , simultaneously readjusted the patrol while on the move and laid a well sited opportunity ambush . Displaying excellent field craft and strict fire discipline , he allowed the terrorists to enter killing area and challenged them . When the terrorists opened fire hitting a member of his team , the officer , with utter disregard to his personal safety , got up and opened effective fire killing two terrorists on the spot and saving his comrades . His exemplary courage and leadership in face of grave danger resulted in elimination of three hardcore terrorists with no casualties to own troops.

instead of surrender continued firing in order to flee from the scene . Lieutenant Ahlawat made quick assessment and decided to eliminate them by cutting off their escape from a flank . Spotting the two militants , the officer showing presence of mind and tactical acumen crawled and closed in , firing on them resulting in elimination of two dreaded militants at 0400 hours . The slain militants were identified as General Secretary of a terrorist group operating in the North East region and his Gunman who were involved in Ambush against Meghalaya Police and Paramilitary Forces .
Lieutenant Satya Jeet Ahlawat displayed exceptional gallantry and leadership in fighting the militants .
3. IC - 59849M MAJOR TN UNNIKRISHNAN , 15TH BATTALION THE DOGRA REGIMENT

On 21 June 2011 Major TN Unnikrishnan , on receipt of reliable information about presence of four militants in general area of Kokrajhar district of Assam , launched a joint operation with the police. At approx 1645 hours his party noticed suspicious movement of four armed persons . On being challenged suspected militants opened fire on ambush party. The officer alongwith his buddy retaliated and displaying presence of mind and courage killed two militants on the spot . However , two other militants managed to break contact . Ignoring his personal safety the officer decided to search for the escaped militants in the dense forest . The area was cordoned and in the ensuing search , some suspicious movement was observed in thick foliage . When the militants opened fire on being cornered , displaying skilled battle craft the officer and his buddy retaliated and neutralised one more militant .
Major TN Unnikrishnan displayed undaunted spirit , fortitude and exemplary courage in the face of hostility in fighting the militants .
4. IC - 67215L MAJOR SAURABH SUYAL , BAR TO SENA MEDAL, ARMOURED CORPS / 22ND BATTALION THE RASHTRIYA RIFLES

On 13 September 2011 , Major Saurabh Suyal received information about presence of terrorists in a general area of Sopor district , Jammu & Kashmir . The officer with his team established an effective cordon with speed in professional manner . One terrorist , realising he was trapped, attempted to break the cordon while civilians from the target area were being evacuated. The officer took control of the situation and brought down effective fire on the fleeing terrorist to prevent his escape . window . The terrorist moved out by lobbing a hand grenade and fired indiscriminately . The officer with utter disregard to personal safety charged towards the terrorist and eliminated him.
Major Saurabh Suyal displayed indomitable courage , conspicuous bravery and exhibiting outstanding leadership in fighting the terrorists .
5. SQUADRON LEADER AJIT BHASKAR VASANE ( 27697) FLYING ( PILOT)
(Effective date of the award : 10 October 2011)
On 10 October 2011 , Squadron Leader Ajit Bhaskar Vasane was detailed to lead a two aircraft Supersonic Practice Intercept mission . At a distance of 85 km from the base and at an altitude of 9 km , the Head- Up Display (HUD) of the aircraft flickered and after a while, went blank . Immediately thereafter , fire emanated from the starboard side of the HUD . The situation deteriorated rapidly with noxious fumes and smoke filling the cockpit . In addition , other glass- plastic material and cables near the HUD quickly caught fire, depositing heavy soot on the windshield , thus severely restricting frontal visibility to the pilot. The pilot tried to douse the fire with his hands , but had to discontinue the attempts as the molten plastic started to burn his gloves and fingers . In these circumstances , he initiated emergency recovery of the aircraft . While doing so, he elected to avoid overflying various petro - chemical installations in the vicinity of the airfield, even though this prolonged flight endangered his life. Notwithstanding the fire in the cockpit and reduced frontal visibility, he skillfully positioned himself for an emergency landing and executed the same in a flawless manner , without any further damage to the aircraft . After landing , he further guided and helped the crash crew in quickly dousing the cockpit fire .
Squadron Leader Ajit Bhaskar Vasane displayed exceptional courage , high standards of professionalism and presence of mind in handling such an unforeseen critical emergency which not only saved the aircraft, but also prevented possible catastrophic damage to the strategically important and vital petro -chemical installations in the area, which are a national asset .
6. SS - 40921H MAJOR PRADEEP MISHRA , JAT REGIMENT / 5TH BATTALION THE RASHTRIYA RIFLES

On 12 October 2011 , on receiving information about presence of three hardcore terrorists in a forest in Ganderbal district of Jammu & Kashmir, Major Pradeep Mishra swung into action with his small team of seven Other Ranks and closed on to the terrorists . As he approached the terrorists , he came under heavy fire . The officer responded with retaliatory fire and gave hot pursuit.

During the heavy exchange of fire , one terrorist ran towards the column and was apprehended . Other two terrorists tried to flee and break contact . The fleeing terrorists were pursued by the column and one terrorist was killed in pursuit. Other terrorist tried to enter a natural hideout. The officer crawled upto the place where the terrorist was hiding and shot the dreaded terrorist at close range .
Major Pradeep Mishra displayed tactical acumen, guile and exceptional courage in fighting the terrorists .
7 . IC - 60369P MAJOR HIMANSHU PANWAR , 26TH MARATHA LIGHT INFANTRY BATTALION
(Effective date of the award: 16 November 2011 )
A cordon and search operation was launched on the night of 16 November 2011 in a village of Lohit district in Arunachal Pradesh , under Major Himanshu Panwar . The officer after establishing an effective cordon of suspect house tactfully evacuated all innocent members of the house . On confirmation of presence of terrorists in the house from the inmates , the officer ordered them to surrender . Instead of surrendering, the terrorists started indiscriminate fire while trying to escape . Undeterred by heavy firing and unmindful of his own safety , the officer brought down heavy and accurate fire on the terrorists resulting in killing of two terrorists on the spot .
Major Himanshu Panwar displayed conspicuous gallantry , exemplary leadership , and dedication to duty in fighting the terrorists .

On 24/11/2011 , in pursuance of information received from Superintendent of Police Paschim Midnapur , regarding movement of 5-7 armed Maoists in the jungle area north- east of village Burisole , about 13 Kms from Jhargram , a joint operation was planned . Two teams were dropped at different points . They moved towards target area and reached their RV at about 1600 hrs . As a small probing team consisting of personnel from the two CoBRA teams , inched towards the target area , it came under a volley of fire by the Maoists which clearly put the force personnel in a perilously risky position .

The two brave commanders of the CoBRA, Sh . Nagendra Singh and Sh . Vinoj P. Joseph without caring for their own safety, decided for a frontal and headlong advance straight in the line of fire . At the first step of advance , Sh. Nagendra Singh was hit and injured with a grenade splinter while Vinoj P. Joseph was pinned down with a hail of bullets which missed him . Despite this , they mutually signalled their determination to continue to advance and closed in 10-15 meters into the enemy den . A fierce gun battle took place between the Maoists and both the officers . This sudden and sprinted counter attack by the two commanders with a small team of 5 personnel not only saved the other men from injury and casualty but decisively unnerved the Maoists . After the firing stopped , a thorough search of the area was carried out in which one dead body with one AK - 47 in his hands was found . The dead body was later identified to be of Koteshwar Rao @ Kishanji .
Shri Nagendra Singh and Shri Vinoj P. Joseph, Assistant Commandants of 207 COBRA displayed extraordinary courage , inspiring leadership and great determination in carrying out the operation against the Maoists.
10. WING COMMANDER VATSAL KUMAR SINGH ( 24223) FLYING ( PILOT)
(Effective date of the award : 19 December 2011)
On 19 December 2011 , Wing Commander Vatsal Kumar Singh was detailed to fly as the captain of the No. 3 helicopter in a low level mission in the densely forested and heavily Naxal infested area of Chhattisgarh, to induct 120 COBRA commandos . The landing site was only a small clearing in the jungle with very tall trees around it and an undulating landing surface , which made the task even more difficult. While he was executing the third shuttle with seventeen persons on board , his helicopter was fired upon with automatic weapons from the left and below the aircraft . He immediately turned away from the probable direction of fire and gained height . After having ascertained that all aircraft parameters were normal , he decided to return to base . Subsequently, the aircraft started experiencing severe vibrations and the entire cargo compartment was filled with the smell of burnt explosive . The severe vibrations made it extremely challenging to make sure that the helicopter do not go out of control. Wg Cdr VK Singh kept his cool and controlled the helicopter with his superior flying skills . He reduced the speed and minimized the vibrations and kept a close vigil on the vital engine parameters and brought seventeen men and the machine to safety, in an extremely professional manner after flying for forty long and demanding minutes . Post flight inspection revealed nine bullet hits with multiple entry and exits in and around vital parts of the helicopter .
Wing Commander Vatsal Kumar Singh displayed exceptional courage , inspirational leadership and composure under adverse conditions .

11. FLIGHT LIEUTENANT GUNADNYA RAMESH KHARCHE ( 29037) FLYING ( PILOT )

On 06 February 2012 , Flight Lieutenant Gunadnya Ramesh Kharche was detailed to fly as captain for a low - level navigation sortie on an An - 32 aircraft . While effecting the rejoin , when the undercarriage was lowered , the starboard and nose undercarriage was locked down . However , the port undercarriage failed to be lowered by the normal means . Even emergency means of lowering .. the port undercarriage failed to yield any results . Inspite of his limited experience as captain on type , Flt Lt Kharche maintained his composure in this grave emergency and decided to carry out an emergency landing on starboard main wheel and nose wheel . He assessed the grave situation and ensured that the entire available crew resources were marshaled in the most professional way to handle the emergency . Flt Lt Kharche thereafter carried out a safe emergency landing with only starboard main wheel and nose wheel . The aircraft landing was controlled in the most courageous way and the aircraft suffered minimal damage . Once the aircraft veered of the runway after touchdown , the action to evacuate the personnel on board were carried out most efficiently under his supervision.
Flight Lieutenant Gunadnya Ramesh Kharche displayed exceptional courage and extreme professionalism while handling such a grave emergency which not only saved the lives of personnel on board but also recovered the aircraft with minimal damage .
12. IC - 66537Y MAJOR VIJAYENDRA SINGH YADAV , BRIGADE OF THE GUARDS / 21ST BATTALION THE RASHTRIYA RIFLES

Based on intelligence cultivated and corroborated by officer's personal indulgence over three months to track down a dreaded terrorist of a terrorist group in North Kashmir , Major Vijayendra Singh Yadav personally led the operation, on 28 March 2012 , to bust a terrorist hideout in a jungle located in Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir. While closing on the hideout , he drew heavy volume of automatic fire . With utter disregard to personal safety, the officer readjusted his position and crawled for 10 meters under heavy fire and neutralised the terrorist from a short range . Sensing danger to life of his buddy, who was under heavy fire from the second terrorist, he came charging out of cover and shot the terrorist dead at five meters range . By his tactfulness the officer facilitated killing of third terrorist by his team. The conspicuous gallantry displayed by Major Vijayendra Singh inspired his unit to eliminate two more terrorists holed up in the house located on the fringes of the Forest .

13. 15126119H HAVILDAR CHARANJIT SINGH , REGIMENT OF ARTILLERY / 30TH BATTALION THE RASHTRIYA RIFLES

On 05 April 2012 , during raid on a terrorist hideout in a forest of Kupwara district in Jammu & Kashmir , Havildar Charanjit Singh , as sentry silencing party commander , alongwith buddy approached the hideout with utmost stealth . Havildar Charanjit Singh observed two terrorists on sentry duty . With utter disregard to personal safety , he crawled up to within five metres of terrorist and shot him. The injured terrorist returned heavy automatic fire pinning down his buddy. Sensing danger to life of his buddy, Havildar Charanjit Singh jumped out of covered position and fired at injured terrorist . In face to face exchange of fire Havildar Charanjit Singh displaying unmatched and extreme boldness killed terrorist instantaneously. Immediately on coming under heavy fire from a second terrorist Havildar Charanjit Singh , maintaining calmness and presence of mind, physically charged at second terrorist killing him on the spot . Neutralization of terrorist sentries resulted in killing of five hardcore foreign terrorists during the raid.
Havildar Charanjit Singh displayed exceptional leadership , indomitable courage in fighting the terrorists .
14. IC - 58687A MAJOR AMIT MOHINDRA , 666 ARMY AVIATION SQUADRON ( RECONNAISSANCE AND OBSERVATION)
(Effective date of the award : 23 May 2012)
On 23 May 2012 at 1100 hrs Major Amit Mohindra took off as Captain for an air maintenance mission in support of ground troops deployed at a totally air maintained post at 18,000 feet in the frozen frontiers of Siachen Glacier in Leh district of Jammu & Kashmir. He successfully delivered the essential logistic supplies at the post while flying the Cheetah helicopter on total manual controls at the extremities of its flight envelope in the rarified atmosphere with no reserve of power .
The officer suffered severe injuries , due to accident of the helicopter , while returning back after successful mission accomplishment in support of the troops on ground enabling them to guard the national frontiers with resoluteness . In doing so , he displayed utmost bravery , boldless , courage , supreme valour , extreme professionalism and finest flying skills , with total disregard to personal 1186
