The 7th July, 2025
No. 338539- HIII(2)-2025/6770/9178.—In exercise of the powers conferred under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act, 1988, and in accordance with the operational Manual dealing with PITNDPS, a Screening Committee consisting of the following is hereby constituted to review and recommend cases of preventive detention under the PITNDPS Act, 1988 as proposed by sponsoring authority.
Composition of the Screening Committee:
1. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chandigarh - Chairman 2. Legal Remembrancer, Chandigarh Administration - Member 3. Superintendent of Police (Crime), Chandigarh - Member 4. Zonal Director, NCB Chandigarh (or his nominee)
- Member 5. Representative of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) - Member 6. Representative of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) - Member Functions of the Screening Committee:
a) To scrutinize proposals received from sponsoring agencies for preventive detention under the PITNDPS Act, 1988.
b) To evaluate the material evidence, nature of offences, and threat to public order posed by the accused.
c) To make recommendations to the Detaining Authority based on its findings.
d) The recommendations of the Screening Committee shall be advisory in nature and not binding on the Detaining Authority.

i. The Screening Committee shall meet as and when required.
ii. The Committee may seek additional information or clarification from the sponsoring agency, if necessary.
iii. The final decision on issuing detention orders shall rest with the Detaining Authority, based on subjective satisfaction.
This order shall come into effect immediately and shall remain in force until further orders.
