Notification
The 14th July, 2025
No. MCC/Secy/2025/522.—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of Section 398 of The Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976 as extended to the Union Territory Chandigarh by The Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension to Chandigarh) Act, 1994 (Act No. 45 of 1994), the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh is pleased to amend the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (Procedure and Conduct of Business) Regulations, 1996 as notified by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh vide Notification bearing No.MCC/96/8027 dated 16.12.1996 as under:-
1 (i) This amendment may be called The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (Procedure and Conduct of Business) (Amendment) Regulations, 2025.
(ii) These shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Gazette of Chandigarh Administration.
2. In Regulation 6 of The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (Procedure and Conduct of Business) Regulations, 1996 (hereinafter called the Principal Regulation), the following amendment shall be made:-
(i) clause (6) of the Principal Regulation shall be substituted as follow:-
"(a) When two or more validly nominated candidates offer themselves for election at the meeting, the election shall be held by show of hands and the candidate who get larger number of votes shall be declared elected.
(b) The person presiding over the meeting convened for the election of Mayor, shall take verbal confirmation of the show of hand and make an account to that effect. The Presiding Officer shall also keep a brief record of the proceedings of the election in writing.
(c) If there is an equality of votes between any candidates at such election and that the addition of vote would entitle any of those candidates to be elected as Mayor, then the person presiding over the meeting shall decide between them by a lot to be drawn in the presence of the candidates in such manner as he may determine, and the candidates on whom the lot falls, shall be deemed to have received an additional vote and he shall be declared to have been elected.

(ii) clause (7) of the Principal Regulation, shall be omitted.
(iii) clause (8) of the Principal Regulation, shall be omitted.
(iv) clause (9) of the Principal Regulation, shall be omitted.
(v) clause (10) of the Principal Regulation, shall be omitted.
(vi) clause (11) of the Principal Regulation, shall be omitted.
(vii) clause (12) of the Principal Regulation, shall be omitted.
(viii) clause (13) of the Principal Regulation, shall be omitted.
(ix) clause (14) of the Principal Regulation, shall be omitted.
(x) clause (15) of the Principal Regulation, shall be omitted.
(xi) clause (16) of the Principal Regulation, shall be omitted.
