ORDER

The 31st December, 2025

No. C-593143/FII(8A)/2025/20056.—Whereas, the delimitation of wards for the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh was last conducted and notified on 30.12.2020 prior to the General Elections held in December 2021, whereby the number of wards was increased from 26 to 35;

And whereas, it is observed that the official figures for the census have not yet been published by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, and there has been no significant alteration in the municipal limits or major variation in the population movement figures that would necessitate a fresh readjustment under Section 8 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976 (as extended to Chandigarh);

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 8 and Section 9 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, and all other powers enabling him in this behalf, the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, is pleased to order as follows:

1. Status Quo of Ward Boundaries: The boundaries, extent, and number of wards (1 to 35) as defined in the Delimitation of Wards Notification dated 30.12.2020, shall continue to remain in force till further orders.

2. Adoption of Previous Census Data: The delimitation of wards shall continue to be based on the preceding published population census data utilized during the 2020 exercise, as no fresh relevant census figures have been published since the last order/notification.

3. No Fresh Delimitation: There shall be no fresh delimitation of wards for the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh, and the existing 35 wards shall remain valid electoral divisions for all purposes.

4. Reservation of Seats: The State Election Commission, UT Chandigarh, shall proceed with the reservation of seats (including for Scheduled Castes and Women) as per the prescribed rules, based on these existing ward configurations.
