No. E-593143-FII(8)-2026/8685.—Whereas, in pursuance of the Notification No. F-II (8)- 2018/21990 dated 30.11.2018, wherein the revenue estates of 13 villages under the Chandigarh Administration were included within the Municipal Area of the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh determined the number of single member wards and extent of each ward of the Municipal area of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh, for the purpose of election of Councillors vide Notification No. C-45063/FII(8)-2020/16415 dated 30.12.2020.
And whereas vide Notifications No. E-593143/FII(8)-2026/6600-6619, dated 15.07.2026, the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh fixed the number of elected councillors of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh and determined the number of seats of Councilors reserved for members of Scheduled Caste; for women belonging to the Scheduled Castes and for women (including the number of seats belonging to Scheduled Castes), for the upcoming elections of the Corporation on the basis of last census report published in the year 2011.
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 5 and Sub-section (2) of Section 6 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976 as extended to the Union Territory, Chandigarh, by the Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension to Chandigarh) Act, 1994 (Act, No. 45 of 1994), the Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, is pleased to determine the manner in which the reservation of seats for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and women shall be done for the upcoming Municipal Elections 2026 :-
1. The reservation of Seven wards for Schedules Caste candidates for the upcoming general election to the Corporation shall be made on the basis of Maximum percentage of scheduled caste population as shown in the last preceding Census of 2011 1474 CHD. ADMN GAZ. AUG. 27, 2026 (BHDR. 05, 1948 SAKA) (on rotation basis) under Sub-section (2) of Section 6 & sub-section (36A) of Section 2 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976 as extended to UT of Chandigarh by the Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension to Chandigarh) Act, 1994. Those wards which have the maximum percentage of Scheduled Castes as per the population Census 2011 (after excluding the Seven wards (SC) reserved in the last MC elections held in 2021) shall be reserved for schedules caste candidates for the upcoming election of the Councillors of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh and this process would continue till such time all the Wards have been reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates by rotation on the basis of preceding published census report.
2. The determination of twelve wards reserved for women (including 3 SC Women) shall be made though draw of lots. The wards previously reserved for Women in the last election 2021 should not be included in draw of lots.
3. Three wards out of the Seven SC wards shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste (Women) in accordance with provision under sub-section (2) of Section 6 of the ibid Act, and would be determined by a public draw of lots.
