GOVERNMENT OF INDIA
MINISTRY OF COMMERCE
RESOLUTION
New Delhi, the 13th October 1948
No. 3-T(4)/48. —In order to ensure that adequate quantities of Superphos- phate are made available to cultivators all over the country at reasonable prices, for use as manure, the Government of India in the Ministry of Agri- culture propose to constitute and operate a, Central Phosphate Pool, which will be the primary importer from abroad of this commodity and which again will undertake the purchase of all Superphosphate produced within the Indian Dominion at fair and reasonable prices. Superphosphate will bo sold from this stock to consumers—whether Provincial Governments or others—on a no-profit, no-loss' basis. To operate this scheme, it is essential to determine the fair and resonable price at which Government should purchase Superphosphate ox-works at the various sources of production. The Tariff Board is accordingly requested to conduct such enquiries as may be necessary and advise Govern- ment as to such fair and reasonable price or prices, in pursuance of paragraph 1(1) of the Commerce Ministry's Resolution No. 30-T(l)/48, dated the 6th August 1948.
2. The undertaking by the Pool to purchase all the Superphosphate produced in the Indian Dominion at fair and reasonable prices would render it unneces- sary for the Tariff Board to pursue the examination of the claim for assistance or protection to the Superphosphate industry and the Tariff Board is accordingly requested not to take any further action with reference to the enquiry that was remitted to it in the Department of Commerce Resolution No. 218-T(55)/45, dated the 12th October 1946.
